LCW Showdown Television Results 06.17.09

LCW Showdown Television Results (June 17, 2009) live from the Bi-Lo Center in Greenville, SC.

From the broadcast booth, Tony Schiavone and Larry Zbyszko welcomed everyone to LCW Showdown as "Monsters" by Matchbook Romance, the LCW Showdown theme song, played in the background and as fireworks exploded all over the arena. Schiavone and Zbyszko talked about what happened last Sunday at the LCW SuperClash pay-per-view.

LCW Chairman of the Board Ted Turner came out in a wheelchair with Eric Bischoff, Bill Goldberg, and Diamond Dallas Page and the LCW Universal Championship and said that Magnum TA and Ric Flair would face each other in a 60-minute Iron Man match in tonight’s main event to determine the LCW Universal Champion. Turner also announced that as a result of Bill Goldberg’s victory over Stone Cold Steve Austin last Sunday at LCW SuperClash, he no longer had to worry about LCW Founder Christian Calaway. Turner said there would be no more “operational compromises.” Turner said, effective immediately, Bischoff was reinstated as the General Manager of Showdown. Bischoff announced that the winner of the Flair and Magnum rematch would face the new number one contender for the LCW Universal Championship next week on LCW Showdown… Bill Goldberg!

The Dynamite Kid defeated Koko B. Ware in 3:07 by pinfall after the diving headbutt. After the match, Dynamite locked Ware in the Sharpshooter and wouldn’t release the hold until Bret Hart came out and chased him out of the ring and through the crowd.

In the back, One Man Gang (with Luna Vachon) and King Kong Bundy confronted LCW General Manager Eric Bischoff and said they wanted a match with Manny Fernandez and Terry Funk because the only thing that stood in their way of winning the LCW Unified Tag Team Championships was Kevin Sullivan. Bischoff said he understood and granted them the match.

LCW Unified Tag Team Champions Manny Fernandez and Terry Funk defeated One Man Gang (with Luna Vachon) and King Kong Bundy in 7:53 by pinfall when Fernandez pinned Gang after the Flying Burrito. During the match, Kevin Sullivan came down to ringside and started talking to King Kong Bundy. Bundy eventually left with Sullivan, leaving Gang to fend for himself and eventually lose the match.

{COMMERCIAL BREAK}

Wildfire Tommy Rich came out and called out Missy Hyatt, Hollywood John Tatum, and Austin Idol. Hyatt, Tatum, and Idol came out and joined him in the ring. Rich said they cost him the LCW International Championship. Idol said he cost himself the championship. He said they just proved what they already always knew, what he always knew: that they would have never been a champion without him. Rich said he had a rematch next week for the LCW International Championship with Tully Blanchard on LCW Showdown and would prove them all wrong and win the title without them. Rich went to leave the ring and Idol and Tatum attacked Rich and left with Hyatt.

In the back, Sean Mooney interviewed General Skandor Akbar and Sheik Adnan Al-Kassie. Akbar announced that since the Disciples of Allah were unable to be a group anymore he was going to manage Abdullah the Butcher and Al-Kassie would manage the team of the Iron Sheik and Nikolai Volkoff.

LCW Chairman of the Board Ted Turner came out with Eric Bischoff, Diamond Dallas Page, and Bill Goldberg and announced that the match would not continue under sudden death rules. Turner announced that the LCW Universal Championship was still vacant. Turner then announced LCW Showdown was going on an extended hiatus so that they could “reboot” the series. He said that next week’s edition of LCW Showdown would be the last episode of LCW Showdown until September 9th when it would return after the LCW Survival Project pay-per-view. Turner said the LCW Beach Brawl and LCW Caged Heat pay-per-views would still take place as scheduled. He announced that next week’s edition of LCW Showdown would be a special “Championship Edition” in which every title would be on the line.
