LCW Showdown Television Preview 05.20.09: SuperClash Nears!
Last week, LCW Founder, and former Chairman of the Board, Christian Calaway returned, and boy did he make an immediate impact. Backstage, Calaway attacked then-General Manager Eric Bischoff and threw him into a wall. It was discovered later, at the LCW Uprising pay-per-view that Calaway spoke with the LCW Board of Directors and they removed Bischoff as the General Manager. We now have to ask the question, with Bischoff gone as the General Manager, and Calaway's sights set clearly on taking his company back from Ted Turner, what will happen this week on LCW Showdown?
At Uprising, LCW Universal Champion Magnum TA retained his title, defeating Barry Windham. The Universal title, which he has held longer than any other legend, past or present, who has been featured in Legends Championship Wrestling, has stayed around Magnum's waste nearly a year now. What Magnum didn't expect, however, was the return of the Nature Boy Ric Flair, who shocked many by returning to Legends Championship Wrestling. However, this past Monday, Flair returned to World Wrestling Entertainment, which has left Flair's future in LCW in doubt. While it's been rumored that Flair was to be the next number-one contender for the LCW Universal Championship, nothing is concrete yet, and the question has to be whether Flair will still be the number-one contender or not. That question will be answered on Showdown this week.
Diamond Dallas Page is now, officially, the King of the Legends, which he achieved by defeating Dr. Death Steve Williams at Uprising. Page’s coronation, however, was very unceremonious, as he was speared into his own throne by Williams, breaking the back of it. Page, we’re sure, will be impossible to live with now that he has achieved immortality and become the King of the Legends, but what will Dr. Death have to say about Page’s newly won crown?
LCW Television Champion Wildfire Tommy Rich will face Koko B. Ware in an LCW Uprising rematch. At Uprising, Rich lost to Ware by disqualification, which meant that the title didn’t switch hands. Could Ware pull out a pinfall victory and capture the title from Rich?
Sir Oliver Humperdink turned on all of his fans at the LCW Uprising pay-per-view, by turning on Paul Orndorff. Humperdink has vacated the New House of Humperdink and is making room for new company in the form of Kevin Sullivan and Luna Vachon. What will they do next?
A title unification match involving the LCW World Tag Team and LCW United States Championships led to be a slight bit of confusion. It was Manny Fernandez and One Man Gang versus Terry Funk and Big Van Vader, however, by the end of the night, it appeared that Fernandez and Funk were the Unified LCW Tag Team Champions. This week on LCW Showdown, we hope to get some clarification on this situation, and answer the following questions: Who are the Unified LCW Tag Champions, is it Funk and Fernandez? If so, where does that leave Vader and Gang? We hope for a bit of clarification this week.
A few weeks ago, The Dynamite Kid was attacked in the locker room. While not being allowed to compete, he has vowed that the search for his attacker will continue. Will it continued into Showdown this week? And will he find any evidence that could lead to his attacker?
Find out all this, and much more this week, as the road to the biggest event of the year, LCW SuperClash, begins!
