LCW Showdown Television Results 04.01.09

LCW Showdown Television Results (April 1, 2009) live from the Cobo Arena in Detroit, MI.

From the broadcast booth, Tony Schiavone and Larry Zbyszko welcomed everyone to LCW Showdown as "Monsters" by Matchbook Romance, the LCW Showdown theme song, played in the background and as fireworks exploded all over the arena. Schiavone and Zbyszko reviewed footage from last week’s edition of LCW Showdown which featured Diamond Dallas Page attacking LCW Universal Champion Magnum TA and aligning himself with LCW Chairman of the Board Ted Turner, LCW General Manager Eric Bischoff, and the number one contender for the LCW Universal Championship Bill Goldberg. Schiavone then introduced footage from a board meeting held earlier today at LCW Headquarters in Sacramento, CA, with the LCW Board of Directors.

On the LegendsTron, footage from the board meeting played as LCW Chairman of the Board Ted Turner was shown sitting with the members of the LCW Board of Directors. Bruno Sammartino expressed concern for the direction Turner was taking the company in again saying, “Mr. Turner, we elected you Chairman of the Board again because we thought you were best suited for the position in spite of your previous history with the position. You assured us when we offered you the position that you wouldn’t abuse your power.” Turner assured them that he wasn’t abusing his power and that he was only trying to do what was best for the company and for the fans. He said he only wanted to provide them with the best possible entertainment. Turner said that Bill Goldberg was an incredible athlete and a worthy contender for the LCW Universal Championship saying, “Well, you boys saw how he handled that Ruskie, Nikita Koloff last week.” Ivan Koloff took offense to the comment, and Turner said, “No offense, Ivan.” Capt. Lou Albano said, “What about Diamond Dallas Page, last week, attacking Magnum TA, joining you and Bischoff and Goldberg? That doesn’t look right to me, brother.” Turner said Page was simply making a statement and taking advantage of a situation to make an impact on Magnum TA. Turner said there wasn’t any conspiracy and Page attacking Magnum wasn’t an attempt to grab power or solidify Turner’s position as Chairman of the Board.” The rest of the members of the Board didn’t seem convinced and Turner continued, “Now, I know I might have gotten a little too involved in everything last week and, for that, I apologize. And now that I’m defending what I did, but I will say that what I did last week was nothing compared to some of the reprehensible things that my predecessor has done. We all agreed that Bill Goldberg would make a fine number one contender for the LCW Universal Championship and all that’s left to be done now is to sign the contact and I understand that will happen tonight on LCW Showdown with the LCW General Manager Eric Bischoff presiding over the contract signing.” The Board of Directors seemed to be in agreement.

LCW United States Tag Team Champions The Powers of Pain came out with their manager Mr. Fuji and Fuji extended his open challenge to any team in Legends Championship Wrestling again. The Rock ‘n’ Roll Express came out to accept the challenge.

The Rock ‘n’ Roll Express defeated LCW United States Tag Team Champions The Powers of Pain (with Mr. Fuji) in 7:35 by pinfall when Ricky Morton pinned the Warlord after a missile dropkick to win the LCW United States Tag Team Championships. After the match, ring announcer Gary Michael Capetta announced that the Rock ‘n’ Roll Express were the new LCW United States Tag Team Champions. However, before he could hand the belts to the referee, Mr. Fuji snatched them away from Capetta and grabbed the microphone and said that he never said the titles were on the line and the Powers of Pain are still LCW United States Tag Team Champions! LCW General Manager Eric Bischoff came out and said that Mr. Fuji was right, the titles weren’t on the line…but they would be on the line at LCW Torment in two weeks when the LCW United States Tag Team Champions The Powers of Pain defend their titles against the Rock ‘n’ Roll Express! Mr. Fuji and the Powers of Pain reacted from ringside as the Rock ‘n’ Roll Express challenged them to get back in the ring. Fuji and the Powers of Pain walked away with the titles as the show went to commercial.

The medic said Patera had second degree burns above his right eye and the fireball had impaired his vision. Bischoff asked what all that meant and the medic said he couldn’t medically clear Patera to wrestle. Patera tried to argue, but Bischoff said if he wasn’t medically cleared to wrestle he couldn’t continue in the tournament. Bischoff said wished Patera a speedy recovery and said it was unfortunate. Bischoff said that Austin Idol would receive a bye into the finals of the tournament. Patera said he wanted to wrestle Abdullah the Butcher at the LCW Torment pay-per-view in two weeks. Bischoff asked the medic if he’d be able to compete at Torment and the medic said he didn’t think Patera would be able to wrestle in two weeks. Patera threw a fit and Bischoff said he could understand how Patera feels. Bischoff announced that at the LCW Torment pay-per-view in two weeks Abdullah the Butcher would face Sgt. Slaughter. Patera seemed satisfied, but said he would get his hands on Abdullah when he was cleared to wrestle.

In the ring, a table had been setup for the contract signing between LCW Universal Champion Magnum TA and Bill Goldberg for their main event match at the LCW Torment pay-per-view in two weeks. Ring announcer Gary Michael Capetta introduced LCW General Manager Eric Bischoff who came out and introduced Magnum and Goldberg. Goldberg said he was in Legends Championship Wrestling to do two things: prove he was a legend and win the LCW Universal Championship and, from where he stood, Magnum TA stood in the way of him accomplishing both of those objectives. Magnum TA said he wasn’t sure why Goldberg was in Legends Championship Wrestling, but he was sure that Goldberg wasn’t worthy of a shot at the most prestigious title in LCW. Magnum said he had the shot for two reasons: because he attacked Magnum from behind and because he’s Ted Turner’s pet. Magnum TA said he thought Goldberg was a legend, but more importantly, he thought Goldberg was ‘da man. Magnum said he was disappointed to find out that Goldberg wasn’t even a man because a man wouldn’t accept a handout like Goldberg did and a man wouldn’t attack another man from behind like Goldberg did. Magnum said now that he knows what kind of man Goldberg really is, he was going to show Goldberg what kind of man he was. Magnum signed the contract and said Goldberg would find out what kind of man he was at Torment. Goldberg signed the contract and said he would show Magnum what kind of man he was: a loser. Magnum went to walk away, but Goldberg hit him with the spear. Goldberg cleared everything off the table and ripped the table cloth off the table and then picked up Magnum and was going to hit him with the Jackhammer through the table, but Dr. Death Steve Williams came out and hit Goldberg with the spear. Diamond Dallas Page came out and hit Williams with the Diamond Cutter and left ringside with Goldberg. From the ring, LCW General Manager Eric Bischoff announced that tonight Magnum would team with Williams to face Goldberg and Page.

It wasn’t supposed to be like this.” LCW Television Champion Wildfire Tommy Rich grabbed her and said, “They’re going to go out there and take care of business and we’re going to deal with the fallout.” Hyatt said, “No matter what?” Rich said, “No matter what, we stick to the plan.” Rich walked away as Hyatt looked on, worried, as the show went to commercial.
