LCW Showdown Television Preview 04.29.09

As the LCW Uprising pay-per-view draws nearer and nearer, all eyes are on building momentum, which is exactly what the legends in Legends Championship Wrestling are doing.

This week's main event is going to feature a Champion vs. Champion match, as LCW Universal Champion Magnum TA takes on LCW International Champion Tully Blanchard. Although neither title is on the line, the match is still of enormous importance to both men. At the LCW Uprising pay-per-view on May 10th, Magnum will defend the title he's held longer than anyone else, the LCW Universal Championship, against Barry Windham. Last week on LCW Showdown, Windham and Magnum signed the official contract for the match, and it wasn't a good night for Windham's manager J.J. Dillon, who was carried out of the arena following a belly-to-belly suplex by Magnum. Obviously Magnum was sending a message to his challenger, but will Windham try and return the favor this week?

A match that was supposed to take place at LCW Uprising took place early, on LCW Showdown last week, as LCW World Tag Team Champions The Raging Bull Manny Fernandez and One Man Gang defended the titles against The Hart Foundation. An attack on the Dynamite Kid by an unknown assailant last week forced LCW General Manager Eric Bischoff to make the title match between Bret Hart and Jim Neidhart and the champions for last week. What condition is Dynamite Kid in, and might Kid be a little ticked off that Jim Neidhart took his place in the title match? Remember, it was Dynamite Kid and Bret Hart were the ones who won the contenders match, as part of the Showdown Sweepstake two weeks ago. We'll have to wait to find out this week on LCW Showdown.

Backstage rumor has it that Buddy Landel and Paul Roma, who became the number one contenders for the LCW United States Tag Team Championship after they won their contenders match in the Showdown Sweepstakes two weeks ago, are demanding their shot at the LCW United States Tag Team Titles. The champions, Terry Funk and Big Van Vader. Will LCW General Manager Eric Bischoff grant them their request or make them wait until the LCW Uprising pay-per-view?

The King of the Legends is the newest concept tournament LCW has produced. It started last week, where Diamond Dallas Page and Abdullah The Butcher both won first round matches. This week, another set of quarterfinal matches is set to take place as Dr. Death Steve Williams faces Stan Hansen and Macho Man Randy Savage takes on Bill Goldberg. As the King of the Legends tournament continues it's rollercoaster-like train to LCW Uprising, who has enough in them to be called King of the Legends? Is it DDP, the man who was responsible for the tournament itself? Maybe Abdullah The Butcher, the 430lb Sudanese savage. Perhaps Bill Goldberg, the human wrecking ball who will stop at nothing to get what he wants. How about Macho Man Randy Savage? With his already impressive list of credentials, will he be able to add another prestigious accomplishment to his resume? Don't count out Stan Hansen, with his Lariat clothesline and a reign as LCW Universal Champion, he's a top contender to win this tournament, too. Of course, we have Dr. Death Steve Williams, who makes a big impact wherever he goes, and for good reason. The former LCW International Champion is very impressive! Only one man can be named King of the Legends, but who will it be? You'll have to tune in to Showdown to find out.

Perhaps the most interesting matchup in the opening round of the tournament is the match between Goldberg and Savage as their will be their first meeting since Savage cost Goldberg the LCW Universal Championship a few weeks ago at the LCW Torment pay-per-view. Will Goldberg get retribution for Savage's costly interference or will Savage use Goldberg as a stepping stone to winning the King of the Legends tournament and perhaps starting a journey back to the LCW Universal Championship?

Last week, Missy Hyatt made it extremely clear that she didn't see Koko B. Ware as a credible contender to face LCW Television Champion Wildfire Tommy Rich, and so she has arranged for Ware to take on any opponent of her choosing... with herself as the referee. This week, Ware takes on Hollywood John Tatum in his first challenge. Should Tatum win, he'll become the number-one contender. The evidence is there from the last time a situation like this cropped up, if a member of Hyatt International fights another, it sends a rippling effect throughout the group. Can Ware overcome the odds and continue his road to LCW Uprising?

Butch Reed is a very confident man, especially when his manager Slick has the microphone. Last week, Slick made no bones about the fact that Reed wanted the LCW Heritage Championship back where he feels it belongs: around his waist. The current Champion, Nikita Koloff and Reed are set to square off at the LCW Uprising pay-per-view.

This weeks Showdown, the build toward the LCW Uprising pay-per-view, and the road to LCW SuperClash, the biggest event of the year for Legends Championship Wrestling promises to be full of shocks... turns... and some very big surprises. Tune in this week for LCW Showdown, you'll never forgive yourself if you miss it!
