LCW Showdown Television Results 02.25.09

LCW Showdown Television Results (February 25, 2009) live from Wells Fargo Arena in Tempe, AZ.

From the broadcast booth, Tony Schiavone and Larry Zbyszko welcomed everyone to a special three-hour edition of LCW Showdown without the fireworks or LCW Showdown theme song, “Monsters” by Matchbook Romance, playing in the background. Schiavone announced that the LCW Board of Directors had a special announcement and he introduced them before they appeared on the LegendsTron.

The LCW Board of Directors appeared on the LegendsTron and Bruno Sammatino announced again that Verne Gagne had been removed from the Board of Directors as a result of his current state of health. Sammartino spoke of Gagne’s courageous struggle to continue as a member of the Board of Directors, but his health issues had prevented him from fully executing his duties. Sammartino also announced that Christian Calaway had been removed as Chairman of the Board for failure to appear before and failure to facilitate his duties as Chairman. Sammartino welcomed Baron Von Raschke as the newest member of the Board of Directors and introduced the new Chairman of the Board…Ted Turner! Turned thanked Sammartino and the Board of Directors and said, “Several years ago I was the Board of Directors and the feeling of being in charge and in control of a wrestling company went to my head and I allowed my ego to control many of the decisions that I made. For those of you that are worried about the Board of Directors decision to name me the new Chairman of the Board, all I can do is reassure you that I know that mistakes were made last time, but this time it’s just business and business will be conducted with the utmost professionalism and for the best of the business. Turner extended his congratulations to Terry Funk and Board member Dory Funk, Jr., for their forthcoming induction into the WWE Hall of Fame during WrestleMania 25 in Houston, TX. Turner said that in honor of the Funks’ induction into the WWE Hall of Fame, he was allowing him to select his opponent tonight. Turner wished Funk luck as Funk came out and got into the ring. Funk grabbed a microphone and thanked the Board of Directors and new LCW Chairman of the Board Ted Turner and said he had the perfect opponent tonight for an Ultimate Endgame match, the man he wanted out of Legends Championship Wrestling more than anyone else…The Raging Bull Manny Fernandez. Funk said, “Bully, get your ass out here!”

The Raging Bull Manny Fernandez defeated Terry Funk in 15:50 by pinfall after the Flying Burrito. After the match, Fernandez stood over Funk for a moment and then extended his hand. A cautious Funk put out his hand and Fernandez helped Funk to his feet. The two men stared at each other for a moment and Fernandez extended his hand for a handshake and the two men hugged each other. Fernandez raised Funk’s arm in the air and then walked away leaving the fans to cheer for Funk and chant, “Thank you, Terry! Thank you, Terry!”

In the back, Cowboy Bill Watts approached the Horsemen: Ric Flair, LCW International Champion Tully Blanchard, with his valet Baby Doll, Barry Windham, with his manager J.J. Dillon. Watts had a briefcase with him and said to Dillon, “I just had some business I needed to take care of before I leave and I was wondering if you guys could do me a favor.” Watts opened the briefcase and it was full of money. Blanchard and Windham saw cameraman Jackie Crockett and chased him away as Watts and Dillon continued talking business. Once Crockett was around the corner, he moved his camera around the corner again and saw Watts handing Dillon the briefcase full of money and the two men shaking hands before Watts walked away.

The Great Muta came out and started speaking in Japanese, introducing the footage from the LCW Descent 2009 pay-per-view last Sunday that played on the LegendsTron which featuring footage of Muta attacking LCW Universal Champion Magnum TA after their victory over the Disciples of Allah in a ten-man tag team elimination match. After the footage ended, the audience booed loudly. LCW General Manager Nick Bockwinkel came out and announced that at the LCW Breaking Point 2009 pay-per-view on March 22nd, LCW Universal Champion Magnum TA would defend his title against the Great Muta. Bockwinkel then said Muta would have a match tonight…against the Dynamite Kid!

The Great Muta defeated the Dynamite Kid in 8:52 by pinfall after the moonsault after Dynamite missed an attempted flying headbutt. After the match, before leaving ringside, Muta grabbed a microphone and said, “Magnum…you’re next!”

In the back, Ric Flair, Tully Blanchard, with valet Baby Doll, and Barry Windham, with manager J.J. Dillon, approached Dr. Death Steve Williams and asked him to be the fourth member of the Horsemen. Williams said he saw what happened to the last member of the Horsemen, Paul Orndorff, and he said he was not interested. Williams turned to leave, but was attacked by Blanchard and Windham. Williams tried to fight back, but the numbers were too much for him and the Horsemen quickly gained the advantage, beating and kicking Williams to the ground. From the broadcast booth, Tony Schiavone said, “This was Cowboy Bill Watts. This was the favor he was asking from the Horsemen. He paid the Horsemen to attack Dr. Death. He put a hit out on Dr. Death.” The show went to commercial as the Horsemen walked away.

Kevin Sullivan and the End of WCW DVD

{COMMERCIAL BREAK}

In the back, Sean Mooney interviewed LCW Heritage Champion Kevin Sullivan and Luna Vachon about Sullivan beating Superstar Billy Graham in a street fight match last Sunday at the LCW Descent pay-per-view to become the new LCW Heritage Champion. Sullivan laughed as he talked about sending Graham home on a stretcher. He warned that the same fate would befall anyone who tried to come between he and his first title in Legends Championship Wrestling.

LCW World Tag Team Champions The Nasty Boys defeated The Great Kabuki and Kendo Nagasaki (with Mr. Fuji) in 6:14 by pinfall when Brian Knobbs pinned Nagasaki after Mr. Fuji accidentally threw powder in Nagasaki’s face. After the match, an irate Fuji blamed Nagasaki for the loss and slapped a blinded Nagasaki until Kabuki came to Nagasaki’s defense and spit his red mist in Fuji’s face. LCW United States Tag Team Champions The Powers of Pain came out, passing by the Nasty Boys outside the ring, and attacked Kabuki and Nagasaki. The Nasty Boys, making their way up the entrance ramp, turned around and saw the Powers of Pain attacking Nagasaki and Kabuki. The Nasty Boys looked at each other and went into the ring and started brawling with the Powers of Pain, eventually knocking them out of the ring. The Powers of Pain left ringside with a blinded Fuji in tow as the Nasty Boys challenged them to get back in the ring as the show went to commercial.

In the back, Cowboy Bob Orton and Dirty Dick Slater approached their manager Col. Robert Parker and said they wanted a title shot by next week or they were going to seek other management. Slater suggested that maybe Mr. Fuji would be interested in retaining their services and Orton said he had been managed by Mr. Fuji before and wouldn’t mind retaining his services again. Parker told them to calm down and not be too hastily. Parker said he had secured a title shot for Orton and Slater, but first Orton and Slater would have to beat the Long Riders next week on LCW Showdown. Orton asked Parker how Maw Bass, manager of the Long Riders and Parker’s girlfriend, felt about this and Parker said she was fine with it. Slater said, “She doesn’t know yet, does she?” Parker said she didn’t, but he was sure she’d be fine with it. Orton warned Parker that he’d better have his mind in the right place and focused on them next week saying that it was them who would take him to being the manager of the new champions and not the Long Riders.

{COMMERCIAL BREAK}

In the back, Col. Robert Parker approached Maw Bass and said that he had secured a title shot for the Long Riders. Maw Bass exploded with excitement, hugging, kissing, and thanking Parker. Parker tried to calm her down and said, “There is one thing though, they have to beat Cowboy Bob Orton and Dirty Dick Slater first and then they get the title shot.” Bass looked surprised and asked if the Long Riders were going to beat Orton and Slater. Parker smiled and said, “I think we can work something out, darling.”

General Skandor Akbar and Sheik Adnan Al-Kassie came out with the Disciples of Allah: The Iron Sheik, Abdullah the Butcher, and The Bolsheviks. From the broadcast booth, Tony Schiavone noted the absence of Ken Patera. Akbar also called attention to the absence of Patera and then asked Patera to come out and join the Disciples of Allah in the ring. Patera, looking disappointed and confused, came out and joined the Disciples of Allah in the ring. Akbar said that before he said what he had to say he wanted Patera to look around the ring at the rest of the Disciples of Allah and never forget that they were there. Akbar said after he got that thought into his mind he wanted Patera to think back to the LCW Descent pay-per-view last Sunday night and think about how he disappointed the Disciples of Allah and let them down. Akbar said he invited Patera to join the Disciples of Allah several months ago because he saw a lost man, a man without a country, a man without direction and he gave Patera that direction and guided him to the LCW United States Championship and even after Patera lost the LCW United States Championship, he had faith that Patera could still be a leader and regain his former glory, but last Sunday night was the final straw. Footage played on the LegendsTron of Patera being eliminated last Sunday night in the ten-man tag team elimination match at LCW Descent. Akbar said he was the first person eliminated and blamed him for the loss. Akbar said, “Honestly, Patera, it wasn’t that we were trying to play mind games with Magnum TA and the Yakuza Mafia when we told LCW General Manager Nick Bockwinkel that you wouldn’t be taking part in the match at LCW Descent. We weren’t sure we wanted you to take part in the match and in retrospect we wish we had gone with someone else. I actually wish I had never invited Patera to be a part of the Disciple of Allah in the first place!” Patera grabbed Akbar and started yelling at him, but he was attacked from behind by the Disciples of Allah. Suddenly, Sgt. Slaughter came out with a steel chair and cleared the Disciples of Allah out of the ring before helping Patera to his feet.

In the back, Missy Hyatt was shown making her way through the arena corridor with Hollywood John Tatum, Austin Idol and Wildfire Tommy Rich as the show went to commercial.

In the back, an angry Ken Patera, with Sgt. Slaughter, approached LCW General Manager Nick Bockwinkel and demanded a match with a member of the Disciples of Allah tonight! Bockwinkel said there wasn’t enough time in tonight’s show, but said that next week on LCW Showdown, Ken Patera would face the Iron Sheik in a one-on-one match. Bockwinkel welcomed Slaughter back to Legends Championship Wrestling and suggested that maybe he’d like to be in Patera’s corner next week to make sure that General Skandor Akbar and Sheik Adnan Al-Kassie don't interfere. Slaughter said he was proud to be back in Legends Championship Wrestling and would keep Akbar and Al-Kassie in line.

Wildfire Tommy Rich (with Missy Hyatt, Hollywood John Tatum, and Austin Idol) defeated Kevin Von Erich in 7:28 by pinfall after the Wildfire Driver. After the match, Rich, Tatum, and Idol attacked Von Erich until LCW Television Champion Brutus Beefcake came out to even the odds. However, the numbers were too much and Rich, Idol, and Tatum attacked Beefcake, beating him down to the mat as well. Rich, Idol, and Tatum left ringside with Missy Hyatt feeling satisfied with the damage they had done in the ring.

In the back, Gorgeous Jimmy Garvin, with his valet Precious, was watching footage from the LCW Descent pay-per-view last Sunday on a monitor. Gavin and Precious were watching footage from Don Muraco’s match with LCW International Champion Tully Blanchard in which Muraco failed to win the title. Garvin told Precious to “watch this” as Blanchard rolled up Muraco for the pinfall and held Muraco’s trunks. The two of them laughed at the screen calling Muraco “pathetic” as he lost the match. Don Muraco approached them and asked what they were laughing at and Gravin tried to say nothing as Precious fumbled to turn off the monitor, but she couldn’t turn it off in time and Muraco saw that they were laughing at his loss. Muraco said, “Oh, so you were laughing at me? I’ll tell you what I’m laughing at. I’m laughing at a guy who didn’t have a shot at the LCW International Championship. I’m laughing at the guy who hasn’t even won a match in as long as I can remember. I’m laughing at the guy who’s going to get his ass kicked by me next week.” Muraco walked away as Garvin looked on in shock. After Muraco walked away, Gravin yelled at Precious for not turning off the monitor soon enough. Precious tried to apologize, but Garvin said, “This is all your fault.” Precious tried to reassure Garvin that he could beat Muraco as Garvin walked away.

My Side of the Story: Tito versus Greg DVD

{COMMERCIAL BREAK}

In the back, LCW United States Champion Tito Santana approached LCW General Manager Nick Bockwinkel and said he wanted a match with his former Strike Force tag team partner Rick Martel tonight. Bockwinkel said Martel wasn’t in the building and Santana had a rematch with Greg Valentine anyway. Santana said he’d give Valentine his rematch tonight, but said he wanted Bockwinkel to make sure that Martel is in the arena next week and told Bockwinkel to tell Martel to stop running from him because at some point he was going to catch up with him and kick his ass. “Arriba!” Santana left as his entrance music started to play in the arena.

LCW United States Champion Tito Santana defeated Greg The Hammer Valentine (with Jimmy Hart) in 5:27 by pinfall after the flying forearm smash. After the match, Jimmy Hart tried to hit Santana with his megaphone, but Santana caught Hart and grabbed him as if he was going to hit him. The Honky Tonk Man ran in with his guitar and blasted Santana with the guitar, knocking him out.

In the back, Sean Mooney interviewed LCW Universal Champion Magnum TA who talked about the Great Muta attacking him last Sunday night after their victory over the Disciples of Allah. Magnum said he didn’t know Muta’s issue was and he didn’t care. Magnum said he had long accepted that being the champion made him a target and if Muta wanted some of him he could come get some. As for the Disciples of Allah, Magnum said it ends tonight with them when he beats the Iron Sheik. Magnum said that regardless of what happened after the match he and the Yakuza Mafia beat the Disciples of Allah and Sheik didn’t even deserve a title shot, but he was a fighting champion and would take on all comers, the Iron Sheik, the Great Muta, or anyone else who wanted to take their shot. Magnum turned to walk away and the Great Muta appeared and spit his red mist in Magnum’s eyes. Magnum stumbled around, his eyes burning, as security officials appeared and escorted Muta away and as medical officials rushed in to check on Magnum.

LCW Universal Champion Magnum TA came out, rubbing his eyes which were still burning after the Great Muta spit his red mist in Magnum’s eyes. From the broadcast booth, Tony Schiavone noted that Muta used his red mist which burns more than blinds as does the green mist.

LCW Universal Champion Magnum TA defeated The Iron Sheik (with General Skandor Akbar and Sheik Adnan Al-Kassie) in 8:11 by pinfall after the belly-to-belly suplex. During the match, Akbar jumped up on the ring apron and distracted the referee, while Al-Kassie got in the ring with his flagpole and stood over Magnum TA, poised to strike. Ken Patera came out, slid into the ring and knocked Al-Kassie out of the ring and then broke the flagpole over Sheik’s back. Patera then went outside the ring and pulled Akbar off the ring apron and then knocked him out with a solid punch. Meanwhile, in the ring, Magnum TA hit Sheik with the belly-to-belly suplex for the pinfall and the win.

In the back, as Paul Orndorff was making his way through the arena corridor on his way to the ring, he was approached by Sir Oliver Humperdink and Don Muraco. Humperdink wished Orndorff luck against Flair and said that when Orndorff beats Flair and sends him back to WWE, he’d be honored to have Orndorff as a member of the New House of Humperdink. Orndorff thanked Humperdink for the vote of confidence and shook Humperdink’s hand before walking away.

In the back, Sean Mooney interviewed Ric Flair, with manager J.J. Dillon, and Flair said Paul Orndorff’s victory over him last Sunday night was a fluke and he was distracted by Orndorff’s insurance policy Tatsumi Fujinami. Flair said Fujinami was in Japan and Orndorff didn’t have the insurance policy that he had tonight. Barry Windham and Tully Blanchard, with valet Baby Doll, appeared and Flair said his insurance policy would deliver tonight when he beats Orndorff. Flair walked away with the Horsemen as the show went to commercial.
