LCW Showdown Television Results 01.07.09

LCW Showdown Television Results (January 7, 2009) live from the Roberts Municipal Stadium in Evansville, IN.

From the broadcast booth, Tony Schiavone and Larry Zbyszko welcomed everyone to the first edition of LCW Showdown of 2009 as "Monsters" by Matchbook Romance, the LCW Showdown theme song, played in the background and as fireworks exploded all over the arena.

Ric Flair came out with Tully Blanchard and Baby Doll and said if Paul Roma wanted a piece of him tonight he’d have to try and take it now. Paul Roma came out and said he wanted nothing more than to “kick the top dog’s ass” and prove he belonged in the yard with the rest of the dogs, but he wanted to know that if he beat Flair tonight he’d be a member of the Horsemen, no questions asked. Blanchard asked Roma why he wanted to be a part of a group that didn’t want anything to do with him saying that if seemed pretty pathetic. Roma said it was pathetic that they couldn’t see how great he was and how much he deserved to be a Horsemen again. Roma said he beat Sam Houston, beat Big Van Vader, was the Rock’s punching bag for Flair, and even gave Blanchard a run for his money at the LCW Endgame pay-per-view two weeks ago all to be a part of the Horsemen. Blanchard interrupted him and said, “But you didn’t beat me and that was the deal.” Roma said Blanchard was right and even admitted that without help from Paul Orndorff he probably wouldn’t have lasted much longer with Vader, but Roma looked at Flair and said, “All I want to know is what you’ve got to lose? If you win, I’ll go away and never bother you again. You can forget I was ever a member of the Horsemen and go on with your life. I just can’t understand what you’re afraid of.” Flair said Roma almost killed the Horsemen before and he wasn’t going to let it happen again. With that said, Flair blasted Roma with a vicious right hand. Roma tried to fight back, but Blanchard attacked Roma from behind. Flair pushed Blanchard away and said, “He’s mine.” Flair called for a referee to the ring so “we can get this thing over with once and for all.”

Paul Roma defeated Ric Flair (with Tully Blanchard and Baby Doll) in 7:46 by submission with the figure four leglock. After the match, Flair and Blanchard continued attacking Roma until LCW International Champion Paul Orndorff came out with a steel chair and stared them down until they left the ring. As they exited the ring and made their way up the entrance ramp, a man wearing a hooded jacket jumped the security barricade and stood in the ring. When Orndorff turned around, the man hit Orndorff with a savage running clothesline that took Orndorff off his feet and crashing down to the mat. The man took off his hood and revealed himself to be Barry Windham! Windham joined Flair, Blanchard and Baby Doll on the entrance ramp and when they reached the entrance ramp they turned and faced the crowd and Roma and Orndorff as they slowly made their way to their feet.

In the back, Missy Hyatt was shown walking through the arena corridor on the arm of Hollywood John Tatum and they approached Austin Idol. Hyatt asked Idol if he was ready to beat Brutus Beefcake tonight in the upcoming non-title match. Idol said the fact that it was non-title wasn’t going to be as bad as he thought because it gives him the opportunity to focus on hurting Beefcake for embarrassing him a few months ago and shaving his head bald. Hyatt said the hair was growing back nicely and she thought bald men were hot. Idol told Tatum not to worry about anything saying, “I’ll take care of Brutus Beefcake tonight. You won’t have to worry about wrestling him at the LCW Ascension pay-per-view in two weeks because he won’t be wrestling you. The only thing he’ll be doing is coming down to the ring and forfeiting the title to you because he’ll be unable to wrestle.” Tatum said that sounded good to him and thanked Idol. Idol asked Tatum if he’d be joining him and Hyatt at ringside and Tatum said he was sure that Idol could handle Beefcake, but offered Hyatt’s services which Idol accepted. Tatum passed Hyatt’s off to Idol and the two of them walked away as the show went to commercial.

In the back, Sean Mooney attempted to interview LCW International Champion Paul Orndorff about why he saved Paul Roma from Ric Flair and Tully Blanchard and about the return of Barry Windham. Orndorff said he was tired of seeing Flair and Blanchard treat Roma like a piece of trash. Orndorff said he and Roma were WCW World Tag Team Champions and whether Flair liked it or not Roma was a former member of the Horsemen and he’d have to live with that. Orndorff said he’d have Roma’s back if the Horsemen decided to give him anymore crap. Orndorff then said, “As for Barry Windham, if that son of a bitch wants a piece of me, all I can say is he is more than welcome to bring it.” Orndorff walked away.

Austin Idol (with Missy Hyatt) defeated LCW Television Champion Brutus The Barber Beefcake in 6:19 by pinfall after the Heartthrob Bomb piledriver after Missy Hyatt interfered and hit Beefcake with a low blow. After the match, as Hollywood John Tatum came out and joined Hyatt and Idol on the entrance stage, Beefcake challenged Idol to a rematch next week and said he would even put the title on the line. Idol agreed, but Beefcake said if he won the match he would get a match with Tatum and Beefcake gets to name the stipulation of their match at the LCW Ascension pay-per-view match in two weeks. Beefcake suggested maybe it would be a hair vs. hair match and he’d shave Missy Hyatt bald or maybe it’d be a first blood match and he’d made Tatum bleed like a pig. Beefcake promised that whatever the stipulation would be, he’d make it interesting. Idol said Beefcake would have to win the match first and he wasn’t going to let that happen. Idol said he knew how valuable second chances are and he wasn’t going to squander this one and would do what he didn’t do at the LCW Endgame pay-per-view two weeks ago and win the LCW Television Championship. Hyatt, Tatum, and Idol walked to the back as Beefcake left ringside.

In the back, Sean Mooney interviewed Col. Robert Parker who was with the Stud Stable, Cowboy Bob Orton and Dirty Dick Slater. Mooney asked Parker about what happened last week during the match between the Stud Stable and the Long Riders in which Parker used Maw Bass’ purse as a weapon on her son Outlaw Ron Bass to help the Stud Stable win the match and earn a shot at the LCW United States Tag Team Championships tonight. Parker told Mooney to stop making a mountain out or a mole hill. Parker said it was business, plain and simple, and he was sure that Maw Bass would understand.

LCW United States Tag Team Champions The Hart Foundation defeated Cowboy Bob Orton and Dirty Dick Slater (with Col. Robert Parker) in 5:37 by disqualification after the Long Riders, with Maw Bass, interfered and attacked the Hart Foundation. After the match, as the Long Riders and Maw Bass left ringside, Parker yelled up the ramp at her asking her why (she had the Long Riders interfere) and she yelled back, “It’s just business.” The Stud Stable and Parker left the ring. Meanwhile, in the ring, Bret Hart grabbed a microphone and said he understood that the Long Riders interfered and attacked them to make a point to the Stud Stable, but they made a mistake by attacking the Hart Foundation and next week on LCW Showdown, if Maw Bass doesn’t suffer a heart attack, one of them defiantly would (referring to the Hart Attack). The Hart Foundation left ringside and when they reached the entrance ramp, they turned around to soak in the adulation of the crowd. Suddenly, the Bolsheviks appeared and attacked them from behind, picking up the title belts and laying them out on the entrance stage.

In the back, the Raging Bull Manny Fernandez approached the Destruction Crew and asked them if they would do a favor for him. The Destruction Crew said they’d do anything to help Fernandez and they went to walk away with him, but he stopped them and told them they would need “those,” referring to their sledgehammers. They turned around and picked up the sledgehammers and left with Fernandez.

In the back, the Raging Bull Manny Fernandez was pulling cameraman Jackie Crockett into the parking lot and telling him he wanted to film a special message for Terry Funk. When they arrived at the parking lot, the Destruction Crew were standing on top of Terry Funk’s car and Fernandez yelled into the camera that he was coming for Terry Funk. He said he didn’t need any friends. He didn’t need Magnum TA and he sure as hell didn’t need Terry Funk. Funk arrived and started brawling with Fernandez, sending him head first into the hood of the car. Funk tried to get at Wayne Bloom and pulled him off the hood of the car and started brawling with him. Mike Enos joined the brawl and the Destruction Crew managed to gain the upper hand. Fernandez joined the feud and the three men attacked Funk until security officials arrived and pulled Fernandez and the Destruction Crew off of Funk. LCW General Manager Nick Bockwinkel appeared and announced that tonight Fernandez would team with the Destruction Crew to take on Terry Funk and a team of his choice. Security pulled Fernandez and the Destruction Crew as Fernandez yelled to Funk, “This isn’t over, Funker.” Funk yelled back that it wasn’t and that it had only just begun.

Big Van Vader defeated LCW International Champion Paul Orndorff (with Harley Race) in 13:16 by pinfall after the Vader Bomb to win the LCW International Championship. During the match, Harley Race tried to interfere in the match, but Vader made quick work of depositing him outside the ring with a few the Vader Attack before clotheslining him over the top rope. Moments later, Paul Roma came out and tried to attack Vader, but Vader quickly gained the upper hand and threw Roma into the corner. As Vader was charging at Roma in the corner, Roma pulled the referee into harm’s way and Vader took out of referee and Roma. Meanwhile, Barry Windham came out and hit Orndorff with a clothesline on the opposite side of the ring. Windham left the ring as Vader turned around and saw him in the ring. Vader hit Orndorff with the Vader Bomb for the pinfall and the win. After the match, Race tried to calm down an upset Orndorff about losing the title, but Orndorff was pissed and blamed Race asking him where he was as Race tried to explain that he was knocked out of the ring earlier by Vader. Orndorff called Race a “pathetic, old man,” and pushed him down to the mat. Race got up and went to argue with Orndorff, but he was attacked from behind by Roma. The two men double teamed Race as Vader left the ring. When Vader looked back he saw Race being double teamed and kept walking up the entrance ramp. Vader looked back again and this time he decided to run back to the ring, went into the ring and cleared Orndorff and Roma out of the ring. Vader chased Roma and Orndorff up the entrance ramp as Race slowly made his way back to his feet. As Orndorff and Roma ran to the back, Vader reached the entrance ramp, turned around and looked at Race in the ring for a moment before walking to the back.

In the back, Sean Mooney interviewed General Skandor Akbar who was with the Bolsheviks and Sheik Adnan Al-Kassie. Mooney asked Akbar about attacking the Hart Foundation earlier and Akbar said the titles belonged to the Bolsheviks. Akbar said, “You know what upsets me the most is that you would ask me such a stupid question. Everyone says it was wrong that the Bolsheviks were the United States Tag Team Champions because they didn’t respect America, and they were right about one thing…the Bolsheviks don’t respect America or stupid Americans like you Sean Mooney always asking us stupid questions. But we have an answer for you and an answer for all those stupid Americans out there. The new LCW United States Tag Team Champions, the new team you love, they’re not American’s either. They’re Canadian and in two weeks, at the LCW Ascension pay-per-view, we’re taking back what should still be ours, the LCW United States Tag Team Champions. Those dumb, mother Canuckers are going to learn first hand why the Americans hate us so much.”

Manny Fernandez and the Destruction Crew defeated Terry Funk and the LCW World Tag Team Champions The Nasty Boys in 8:43 by pinfall when Wayne Bloom pinned Jerry Sags after the Wrecking Ball as Fernandez and Funk brawled outside the ring and into the crowd.

In the back, Jimmy Hart approached Greg Valentine with the Honky Tonk Man and the Rougeau Brothers and invited him to rejoin the First Family and offered his managerial services. Honky Tonk Man said he knew that Valentine and he had had their issues in the past, but he was willing to work through them if Valentine was willing to give him a second chance. Honky Tonk extended his hand for a handshake and Valentine shook his hand and they all celebrated as Valentine was welcomed back into the family.

After the match, the Disciples of Allah came out and attacked Santana and Muraco. Valentine took over attacking Muraco as the Disciples of Allah focused on Santana.
