LCW Showdown Television Results 09.17.08

LCW Showdown Television Results (September 17, 2008) live from the Convocation Center in DeKalb, IL.

From the broadcast booth, Tony Schiavone and Larry Zbyszko welcomed everyone to LCW Showdown as "Monsters" by Matchbook Romance, the LCW Showdown theme song, played in the background and as fireworks exploded all over the arena. Schiavone announced that LCW Chairman of the Board Christian Calaway had a special announcement about Jake The Snake Roberts concerning the incident that Roberts was involved in last weekend at an independent wrestling show.

From his office, LCW Chairman of the Board Christian Calaway announced that Jake The Snake Roberts, who was scheduled to appear on tonight’s show, had arrived at the arena, but was sent home because of what happened last weekend at an independent wrestling event. Calaway said that Roberts was given a second chance after going into rehab and cleaning up his act. Calaway said Legends Championship Wrestling was proud to welcome Roberts back to Legends Championship Wrestling and he figured prominently into future storylines. Calaway said he was upset and disappointed and went on to announce that Roberts had been removed from this Sunday’s LCW Survival Project pay-per-view and announced that Roberts had been removed from the Legends Championship Wrestling roster “for the foreseeable future.”

The Disciples of Allah: General Skandor Akbar, Sheik Adnan Al-Kassie, the new LCW United States Champion The Iron Sheik, the new LCW United States Tag Team Champions The Bolsheviks, and Abdullah the Butcher, came out and got in the ring. Akbar said, “It was only a matter of time, but I said it would happen. The Disciples of Allah have become the most dominant force in Legends Championship Wrestling. It started at the LCW Caged Heat pay-per-view last month when we came out of the WarGames steel cage match victorious. And it continued last week when we secured the LCW United States Championship and the LCW United States Tag Team Championship. How ironic is that, huh?” Akbar and Al-Kassie laughed. Akbar said that Abdullah the Butcher wanted to gold, too and said, “Why should we wait? Why shouldn’t we start at the top? Tonight, Abdullah the Butcher wants a piece of LCW Universal Champion Magnum TA.” Akbar also issued an open challenge to any tag team on behalf of the Bolsheviks. Manny Fernandez came out and said, “How about giving me a piece of the Disciples of Allah tonight, daddy?!” Fernandez said he wanted a rematch with the Iron Sheik for the LCW United States Championship. Akbar said he would give Fernandez a rematch, but that it would be a non-title match. Akbar said if he could beat Sheik in a non-title match, then maybe he would give him a rematch for the title. LCW General Manager Nick Bockwinkel came out and said that if Akbar wanted a title shot for Abdullah with LCW Universal Champion Magnum TA, then he would have to give Manny Fernandez a title shot tonight with the Iron Sheik. Akbar said that wasn’t fair, but Bockwinkel said, “It might not be, but, Akbar, it’s going to be the only way that Abdullah the Butcher is going to get a title shot tonight.” Akbar reluctantly agreed to the arrangement and Fernandez left with Bockwinkel.

In the back, a pair of sexy woman's legs was shown walked down the arena corridor and from the broadcast booth, Tony Schiavone questioned who the pair of legs might belong to and Larry Zbyszko said he didn't care because they looked good either way. Schiavone suggested that maybe the audience would find out whom the legs belonged to after the commercial break.

In the back, LCW General Manager Nick Bockwinkel was talking with LCW Chairman of the Board Christian Calaway in his office when there was a knock on the door. Bockwinkel opened the door and the pair of legs we saw earlier were revealed to belong to Dawn Marie. Calaway invited her into the office and he gave her a hug. She thanked him for helping her promote Wrestlers Rescue (www.wrestlersrescue.org) and Calaway said it meant as much to him and was as important to him as Legends Championship Wrestling and said he'd do anything he could to help her. Marie thanked him and said she had a very special surprise planned for him this Sunday at the LCW Survival Project pay-per-view. Calaway smiled and said, "Dawn, as long as it doesn't have anything to do with Al Wilson, I welcome any surprise you've got for me." Marie laughed and Calaway hugged her again. She smiled at Bockwinkel and walked out of the office. Bockwinkel asked Calaway what he thought she had planned for him and Calaway said, "You know something, Bockwinkel, with any other Diva I might make a rude joke or a crass comment, but with that girl...she's class all the way and whatever it is, I know it's going be good."

Butch Reed (with Slick) defeated LCW International Champion Diamond Dallas Page in 9:41 by pinfall after a shoulder breaker to win the LCW International Championship. Before the match, Tony Schiavone and Larry Zbyszko reviewed footage of last week’s edition of LCW Showdown in which Reed attacked Page, hitting him with three shoulder breakers. Page wrestled the match with his shoulder wrapped, clearly injured as a result of the attack last week.

In the back, Col. Robert Parker was with Cowboy Bob Orton and Dirty Dick Slater and asked them if they were going to go into singles action again this year as they did last year so they could compete in the Survival Project. Orton suggested that they leave it up to fate. Orton said, "Why don't we leave it in the hands of fate? Tonight, we have a match with the Hart Foundation. If we win, we stay together and neither of us competes in the Survival Project. If we lose, we break up, at least temporarily, to compete in the Survival Project." Slater said it sounded good to him and they left with Parker.

The Hart Foundation defeated Cowboy Bob Orton and Dirty Dick Slater (with Col. Robert Parker) in 5:18 by pinfall when Bret Hart pinned Slater after the Hart Attack. After the match, as the Hart Foundation made their way up the entrance ramp, in the ring Orton and Slater exchanged words as Parker tried to calm them down. When the Hart Foundation made their way to the entrance stage, they turned around to watch Orton and Slater arguing. LCW World Tag Team Champions The Midnight Express appeared behind them with steel chairs and when Bret Hart and Jim Neidhart turned around, Stan Lane and Bobby Eaton blasted them with the steel chairs, knocking them out. Eaton and Lane and manager Dennis Condrey stood over the fallen Hart Foundation with their titles above their heads. Condrey leaned down and said to the Hart Foundation, "I think we'll call that the Hart Failure!" Condrey, Eaton, and Lane laughed as they walked to the back.

In the back, the new LCW International Champion Butch Reed and Slick celebrated the victory and Slick reminded Butch Reed that his winning the LCW International Championship also meant that he didn't have to compete in the Survival Project. Reed and Slick walked away as Big Van Vader stormed past them. The cameraman followed Vader who knocked on a locker room door. Harley Race opened the door and Vader barged into the locker room, grabbing Race and slamming him against a wall. Vader said, “I could kick your ass right here and right now, but I want to give you the chance to be a man. You’ve been attacking me from behind, taking your shots here and there where you can get them. You want to talk about me not being worthy of being the LCW Universal Champion. You want to talk about me not being worthy of your time and of your managerial services. You aren’t even man enough to step into the ring with me like a man. Be a man, Harley Race. Be the man I wanted to be when I was a little Vader. Be the eight time World Champion I looked up to and wanted to be when I got into this business. If you want a piece of me, you know where to find me.” Vader released Race and walked away.

In the back, Sam Houston approached LCW General Manager Nick Bockwinkel and asked him who his partner was going to be tonight since Jake The Snake Roberts had been released from LCW. Bockwinkel said he had found a suitable replacement for Roberts.

Tully Blanchard (with Baby Doll) and Outlaw Ron Bass (with James J. Dillon) defeated Koko B. Ware (substitute for Jake The Snake Roberts) and Sam Houston in 6:39 by pinfall when Blanchard pinned Houston after the slingshot suplex after Baby Doll hit Houston with a low blow as Ware was double teamed by Bass and Dillon outside the ring.

From the broadcast booth, Tony Schiavone and Larry Zbyszko reviewed footage from last week’s edition of LCW Showdown in which The Genius Lanny Poffo broke LCW Television Champion Ron Garvin’s hand by placing his metal scroll on Garvin’s hand and stomping on the metal scroll, crushing Garvin’s hand. Later in the evening, Garvin demanded a match with Poffo, broken hand or not and was granted the match by LCW General Manager Nick Bockwinkel.

In the back, Sean Mooney interviewed LCW Television Champion Ron Garvin who said he was going to exact some revenge on The Genius Lanny Poffo. Garvin said he couldn’t use his right hand for the Hands of Stone, but his left hand still packed a pretty mean punch, a mean enough punch to break Poffo’s face. LCW General Manager Nick Bockwinkel appeared and reminded Garvin that if he used his cast during the match he would be disqualified and the title would be awarded to Poffo. Garvin promised he wouldn’t use the cast as a weapon against Poffo, reassuring Bockwinkel that he wouldn’t need to use it a weapon.

The Genius Lanny Poffo defeated LCW Television Champion Ron Garvin in 6:39 by decision to win the LCW Television Championship. During Garvin attempted the Hands of Stone with his left hand, but he accidentally hit the referee instead when Poffo moved out of the way. Garvin and Poffo continued wrestling and Garvin threw Poffo into the corner. Poffo went over the top and landed head first on the ring steps outside the ring and was busted wide open. Moments later, Randy Savage came out and interfered, blasting Garvin with a steel chair and knocking him out. Savage helped his brother back into the ring and rubbed his brother’s bloody head over Garvin’s cast covering the cast in blood. Savage then put his brother’s body over Garvin and then slipped out of the ring as the referee begins to regain consciousness. The referee attempted a slow three count, but Garvin kicks out. As Garvin and Poffo slowly make their way to their feet, the referee also continues shaking the cobwebs out of his head. Garvin and a bloody Poffo start trading blows until the referee noticed the blood on Garvin’s cast and the blood on Poffo’s head and called for the bell. After conferring with the referee, ring announcer Gary Michael Capetta announced the winner…and new LCW Television Champion The Genius Lanny Poffo! Garvin argued with the referee as Savage pulled his brother out of the ring and grabed the title from the timekeeper. From the broadcast booth, Schiavone said, “The Genius Lanny Poffo doesn’t look much like a champion right now, but thanks to the interference and ingenuity of his brother Macho Man Randy Savage he is the new LCW Television Champion!”

In the back, Rick Martel approached his tag team partner, Tito Santana and said that Orton and Slater parted ways earlier tonight after losing to Demolition. Martel said, "Tito, since we've reunited we've done some great things in Legends Championship Wrestling. We're former LCW World Tag Team Champions. We're former LCW United States Tag Team Champions. We've done it all, but I think maybe we should part ways, at least temporarily." Santana asked him why and asked him what was wrong. Martel said nothing was wrong, but said, "I'm the former AWA World Champion and I just want to know if I can do it again. I want to enter the Survival Project. I want to be the number one contender for the LCW Universal Championship and the first step is going to be winning the Survival Project." Santana said he understood and wished Martel luck. Martel asked Santana if he was going to compete in the match and Santana said, "Sure, why not." The two men shook hands and Martel walked away.

Harley Race came out to the ring to a chorus of boos and challenged his former protégé, Big Van Vader, to a match tonight. Race said Vader was pathetic, had continually disappointed him time and time again, had no chance of winning the Survival Project this Sunday, would never be LCW Universal Champion again, and he was going to prove it himself by beating Vader tonight. Vader came out and the two men brawled with Vader quickly gaining the upper hand until security officials came out and separated the two men.

From the broadcast booth, Schiavone questioned what prompted the Wild Samoans to come out and interfere and attack the Powers of Pain. After the match, the Wild Samoans continued attacking the Powers of Pain until security officials came out and dragged the two teams out of the ring. Both teams broke free from security and brawled through the crowd and to the back. Before the match, from the broadcast booth, Tony Schiavone reminded the audience that it the Bolsheviks cheated to defeat the Powers of Pain two weeks ago in the mini-gauntlet match to determine the number one contenders for the LCW United States Tag Team Championships which the Bolsheviks won from the Skyscrapers last week.

In the back, Sean Mooney interviewed Terry Funk about being in the Survival Project this Sunday after being attacked by One Man Gang last week on LCW Showdown. Funk said he had been hurt before, his body had been broken before, but was hardcore and what One Man Gang did to him was hardcore, but not hardcore enough to kill him. Funk said Gang would have to kill him before he would quit. Suddenly, the Powers of Pain and the Wild Samoans burst into the scene still brawling with each other and they continued brawling as the show went to commercial.

From the broadcast booth, Tony Schiavone and Larry Zbyszko reviewed the the LCW Survival Project 2008 pay-per-view this Sunday only on LCWSurvivalProject.com and the rules for the 50-man gauntlet tournament that could last 12 hours depending on the length of the matches to determine the number one contenders for the LCW Universal Championship and the LCW International Championship. Schiavone explained the rules: the first two men would enter the ring for their match. Each match has a 15-minute time limit and decisions are determined by pinfall, submission, countout, or disqualification. The winner advances to face the man who drew number three, four, and so on until he's eliminated. If both men in a match are counted out or disqualified, they will both be eliminated. If the 15-minute time limit expires, both men will be eliminated. Schiavone said, "It is the most unpredictable event in professional wrestling as it could last, as we said earlier, an amazing, action packed 12 hours if all matches go the full the 15-minutes." Schiavone announced that the man with the most eliminations at the end of the night would be the number one contender for the LCW International Championship, but the man left standing at the end of the night will be the number one contender for the most prestigious title in Legends Championship Wrestling: the LCW Universal Championship. Zbyszko mentioned the fact that even if a legend manages to eliminate the most men and become the contender for the LCW International Championship, that legend could still lose to number 50 who would be the number one contender for the LCW Universal Championship. Schiavone said that every single competitor on the legends roster will be involved in the gauntlet series and promised some shocking returns and surprising debuts. Schiavone reminded everyone that the LCW Universal Champion Magnum TA nor new LCW International Champion Butch Reed will have to compete in the tournament as they are the defending champions. Zbyszko said, "Hey, Schiavone, Abdullah the Butcher could become the new LCW Universal Champion tonight and they he wouldn't have to compete in the Survival Project and Magnum TA would." Schiavone agreed and said, "Speaking of Magnum TA and Abdullah the Butcher, that match is tonight's main event and it's for the LCW Universal Championship and it's right now. Let's go to ringside and ring announcer Gary Michael Capetta."

LCW Universal Champion Magnum TA defeated Abdullah the Butcher (with General Skandor Akbar and Sheik Adnan Al-Kassie) in 9:18 by pinfall after the belly-to-belly suplex. During the match, Nikita Koloff came out and watched the match from the entrance stage. After the match, the rest of the Disciples of Allah came out and attacked Magnum and, during the attack, the fans started chanting for Koloff to save Magnum. Koloff continued to watch the attack and then turned around and walked toward the back. The audience booed until Koloff returned with his steel chair and ran to the ring. Koloff swung the chair around the ring and cleared the Disciples of Allah out of the ring. Koloff looked down at Magnum and then left the ring.

In the back, LCW Chairman of the Board Christian Calaway was seen running through to the parking lot and was screaming, “Wait! Don’t let him go, yet. Wait!” When Calaway reached the parking lot, Stone Cold Steve Austin was seen getting into his pickup truck and Calaway stopped him from leaving. Calaway and Austin stared at each other for a moment before Calaway said, “For a year and a half, you made my life a living hell! Now, I understand you’re going back to Vince McMahon and the WWE and that’s fine, but I want you to promise me one thing: I want you to promise that you will make his life a living hell as well, I want you to promise me that you’ll raise hell like you always have, but most importantly I want you to promise me that when you’re done in WWE you’ll come back to LCW because, as far as I’m concerned, you’ll always have a home here. You’ve earned my respect, Steve and I wish you the best.” Calaway extended his hand and, after looking down at it for a moment, Austin shook Calaway’s hand, got in his truck and drove away as the show went off the air.
