LCW Showdown Television Results 08.13.08

LCW Showdown Television Results (August 13, 2008) live from Bud Walton Arena in Fayetteville, AR.

From the broadcast booth, Tony Schiavone and Larry Zbyszko welcomed everyone to LCW Showdown as "Monsters" by Matchbook Romance, the LCW Showdown theme song, played in the background and as fireworks exploded all over the arena. Schiavone and Zbyszko reviewed footage of Dr. Death Steve Williams interfering in Big Van Vader’s match with LCW Universal Champion Magnum TA and attacking Vader and Nikita Koloff attacking Magnum TA moments later. The footage ended abruptly when LCW Universal Champion Magnum TA burst into the broadcast booth and said he was tired of Nikita Koloff talking about friendship and pretending to be his friend and he demanded a match with Koloff. Magnum threw the microphone down and made his way to the ring. Once he got into the ring, Magnum picked up a microphone and again demanded that Koloff come to the ring and said he wasn’t leaving until he got the chance to kick Koloff’s ass. Koloff came out wearing a suit and from the entrance stage said he wasn’t going to the ring because he didn’t have his ring gear on and he wasn’t ready to kick Magnum’s ass…yet. Koloff said he was hurt that Magnum didn’t consider him a friend anymore and didn’t value their friendship as much as he did. Koloff said he still considered Magnum a friend and to prove it, he got Magnum a gift and a special friend to deliver the gift. Suddenly, in the ring, Dr. Death Steve Williams appeared from out of nowhere and attacked Magnum from behind with the backdrop driver suplex. Big Van Vader ran past Koloff and into the ring and brawled with Williams. Koloff ran down the entrance ramp and attacked Magnum. Vader and Magnum managed to gain the upper hand and Magnum and Vader both clotheslined Koloff and Williams over the top rope on opposite sides of the ring and turned to face each other in the ring. LCW General Manager Nick Bockwinkel came out and announced that in the main event Magnum TA would team with Big Van Vader to face Nikita Koloff and Steve Williams. Magnum and Vader got in each others faces and Koloff and Williams tried to get back into the ring, but Magnum and Vader knocked them out of the ring again.

One Man Gang defeated Paul Roma (with Jim Powers) in 1:09 by pinfall after the 747 Splash. After the match, Powers went to check on Roma and Gang attacked Powers as well, hitting him with the 747 Splash. From the broadcast booth, Tony Schiavone noted that Gang was now 8-0 and Larry Zbyszko said, “He, I think he used Jim Powers to make it 9-0.” Gang kept attacking Roma and Powers and Terry Funk came out with a steel chair and cleared Gang out of the ring. Funk grabbed a microphone and said, “Didn’t you hear me, Gang? Didn’t you hear me when I said I didn’t like bullies? You must not have gotten the message, but I tell you what, at LCW Caged Heat in two weeks why don’t I deliver the message to you personally inside a steel cage?” From the entrance ramp, One Man Gang agreed to the match, but Funk said, “Don’t get too sure of yourself there big man, because I don’t just want a regular steel cage match at LCW Caged Heat. I want my kind of steel cage match. How about we wrap that steel cage with some barbed wire? How about a barbed wire steel cage match” The audience exploded and Gang looked on in shock.

In the back, Slick, with Butch Reed, and Mr. Fuji, with Don Muraco, were in a locker room watching the previous match on a monitor and Slick told Mr. Fuji that if Reed and Muraco, who previously won King of the Cage qualifying matches last week on LCW Showdown, worked together at LCW Caged Heat, they could be the last two men in the King of the Cage match and could guarantee that one of them would be the new number one contender for the LCW International Championship. Slick said, “As a matter of fact, Mr. Fuji, Don Muraco has already been the LCW International Champion so maybe he’d be willing to step aside and, when it’s down to just the two of them, let Butch Reed have this one.” Reed said, “Wait a minute, Slick, I don’t need anyone handing me anything. I’m going to kick everybody’s ass including this guy (pointing to Muraco) and that title is going to be mine!” Reed walked away and Slick followed after him. Mr. Fuji looked at Muraco and just smiled and Muraco smiled back at him.

LCW General Manager Nick Bockwinkel came out and announced that as a result of the no contest, neither the Bolsheviks nor the Fantastics would be the number one contender for the LCW United States Tag Team Championships at the LCW Caged Heat pay-per-view in two weeks. However, Bockwinkel announced that both teams would be involved in a much higher profile match: a WarGames match featuring the Disciples of Alllah: the Bolsheviks, Abdullah the Butcher, Baron Von Raschke against the Fantastics, Corporal Kirchner, Ken Patera, and Billy Jack Haynes. Akbar said that left them outnumbered and Bockwinkel said he was right and Akbar would be able to name another member to his team. Akbar said he had the perfect person in mind, but said that everyone would have to wait until next week to find out who the mystery partner would be.

Rocky Johnson defeated Hollywood John Tatum (with Missy Hyatt) in 4:28 by pinfall after the Johnson Shuffle in a King of the Cage qualifying match. During the match, Johnson had Tatum in the center of the ring in a Boston crab and Tatum was about to submit when Hyatt distracted the referee. Johnson released the Boston crab and went to confront Hyatt who had jumped up on the ring apron to distract the referee. Hyatt slapped Johnson and he grabbed her. Tatum charged at Johnson to hit him with a high knee lift to the back, but Johnson released Hyatt and moved out of the way and Tatum hit Hyatt with the knee, knocking her off the ring apron. Tatum looked down at the fallen Hyatt and when he turned around Johnson hit him with the Johnson Shuffle for the pinfall and the win.

Before the end of the match, Condrey tried to interfere again, but Robert Gibson chased him up the entrance ramp and to the back. Meanwhile, in the ring, Eaton hit Blair with the Alabama Jam and scored the pinfall, but before the final count, Ricky Morton placed Blair’s leg on the bottom rope. After the match, Morton got in the ring and argued the decision with the referee noting that Blair’s foot was on the bottom rope. The referee reversed the decision and had ring announcer Gary Michael Capetta announce the match as a no contest. LCW General Manager Nick Bockwinkel came out and ordered Ricky Morton to leave ringside and said that the match wasn’t going to end in a no contest and would be restarted after the commercial break. In the back, LCW United States Tag Team Champions The Powers of Pain were with their manager Paul Jones when they were approached by LCW General Manager Nick Bockwinkel. Jones asked Bockwinkel what he wanted and Bockwinkel told Jones that it wasn’t what he wanted, he was what the Skyscrapers wanted and what he was giving them at the LCW Caged Heat pay-per-view in two weeks when the Powers of Pain will defend their titles against the Skyscrapers inside the confines of a 16-foot high steel cage. Jones told Bockwinkel that they didn’t have to wait and they could get a title shot tonight. Bockwinkel said, “Nice try, Paul. No, the Skyscrapers were so upset about being attacked by you last week I worried about what they might try to do tonight to the Powers of Pain so I gave them the night off.” Jones suggest the Skyscrapers could get their title shot next week on LCW Showdown. Bockwinkel said, “You just don’t get it, do you Paul? It’s going to happen inside the steel cage at LCW Caged Heat in two weeks. Not before then. Not until then.” Bockwinkel walked away.

Brutus Beefcake defeated Kamala (with Kimchee) in 2:29 by pinfall after a running knee lift in a King of the Cage qualifying match.

From the broadcast booth, Tony Schiavone and Larry Zbyszko discussed the King of the Cage match and the Elimination Chamber match at LCW Caged Heat on Sunday, August 24th. Schiavone reminded the audience that the Elimination Chamber match would be for the LCW International Championship and that reigning LCW International Champion Paul Orndorff would defend his title against five other men including Diamond Dallas Page, Greg Valentine, Gorgeous Jimmy Garvin. Schiavone announced that the two remaining spots would be determined by matches next week on LCW Showdown when Iceman King Parsons would face The Genius Lanny Poffo and Jack Brisco would face Hollywood John Tatum in qualifying matches. Schiavone moved onto the King of the Cage match in which six contenders would step into the steel cage and one by one be eliminated until only two men remain in the cage at which point a ladder would be lowered into the ring and a steel cage ladder match would take place to determine the number one contender for the LCW International Championship after LCW Caged Heat. Don Muraco, Butch Reed, Rocky Johnson, and Brutus Beefcake had already qualified and the two remaining sports would be determined by matches next week on LCW Showdown when George The Animal Steele would face the Honky Tonk Man and Superfly Jimmy Snuka would face Kevin Sullivan in qualifying matches with the winners joining the other participants in the King of the Cage match.

LCW Universal Champion Magnum TA and Big Van Vader (with Harley Race) defeated Nikita Koloff and Dr. Death Steve Williams (Cowboy Bill Watts) in 8:37 by reverse decision. During the match, Williams threw Vader out of the ring and Cowboy Bill Watts pulled a lead pipe from under the ring and hit Vader in the leg with it before rolling him back into the ring. Williams grabbed the leg that Watts hit with the lead pipe and applied an ankle lock and Vader was forced to tap out. After the match, as Koloff and Magnum brawled through the crowd and to the back, Williams refused to release the ankle lock. Meanwhile, outside the ring, Watts knocked Race out with the lead pipe before getting in the ring and encouraging Williams to break Vader’s leg. The referee told ring announcer Gary Michael Capetta to announce that if Williams didn’t break the hold, the decision would be reversed and Magnum and Vader would be the winners of the match. Williams refused to release the ankle lock and the decision was reversed. Security officials and referees ran into the ring to pull Williams off of Vader. After a moment of struggling, they finally managed to pull Williams off of Vader. LCW General Manager Nick Bockwinkel came out and announced that at the LCW Caged Heat pay-per-view Williams would face Vader in an I Quit match! Vader was helped out of the ring and up the entrance ramp as security officials held Williams back.

In the back, LCW Chairman of the Board Christian Calaway was making his way through the arena corridor on his way to the parking lot. Calaway was on his cell phone talking to LCW United States Champion Manny Fernandez and said, "Well, Bull, you keep working out with Randy Couture. I can't imagine a better sparring partner. I need you to take care of this Tully Blanchard problem because with Tully Blanchard out of the way it'll be easier for me to get rid of Baby Doll." Calaway waited for Fernandez to respond and Calaway said, "Well, I'll see you at NWA Legends Fanfest in Charlotte, brother." Calaway hung up the phone and arrived at his limousine, told the driver to take him to the airport because he had to get to Charlotte, NC for the NWA Legends Fanfest and said, "I've got some business to take care of when I get there." The driver asked him, "What kind of business, Mr. Calaway, if you don't mind my asking?" Calaway said, "I can't really say anything more than..." Calaway then let out a slow, quiet Whooo! Calaway smiled at the driver and the limousine drove away.
