LCW Showdown Television Results 08.06.08

LCW Showdown Television Results (August 6, 2008) live from the Bramlage Coliseum in Manhattan, KS.

From the broadcast booth, Tony Schiavone and Larry Zbyszko welcomed everyone to LCW Showdown as "Monsters" by Matchbook Romance, the LCW Showdown theme song, played in the background and as fireworks exploded all over the arena.

LCW Chairman of the Board Christian Calaway came out and reassured everyone that neither Tully Blanchard nor LCW United States Champion Manny Fernandez were in the arena tonight as they were banned from all LCW arenas and events until the LCW Caged Heat pay-per-view. Calaway also noted that Baby Doll wasn’t in the arena either and he showed footage on the LegendsTron of her being dragged away by security last week at the end of LCW Showdown. Calaway said, “Now, I want to move on to some more serious business if I can for a moment. I want to talk about the Board of Directors and in particular a very special member of the Board of Directors, Wladek ‘Killer’ Kowalski. Killer Kowalski is currently in a nursing home in Massachusetts recovering from a knee injury. There isn’t much that can stop a member of the Board of Directors from being a member of the Board of Directors. They have to either quit, and Killer Kowalski is far from a quitter, they have to be voted off, and nobody’s voting Killer Kowalski off the Board of Directors, or they have to pass away, and let me tell you something, Killer Kowalski isn’t going anywhere anytime soon!” The audience cheered and Calaway continued, “With that said, I just want to reassure everyone that while I know there are a lot of guys in Legends Championship Wrestling gunning for his spot on the Board of Directors, but they can just settle down because as long as Killer Kowalski can still vote and voice his opinion he’ll be a member of the Board of Directors.” Calaway thanked the audience and went to the back.

In the back, the LCW United States Tag Team Champions The Powers of Pain were talking with Paul Jones when The Skyscrapers walked by and Paul Jones said something to them. The Skyscrapers turned around and told the Powers of Pain to keep their “pipsqueak” quiet. The Powers of Pain went to go after the Skyscrapers, but Jones held them back as the Skyscrapers kept walking away. Jones said, “Don’t worry, boys, they’ll get theirs soon enough. Soon enough.”

The Skyscrapers defeated LCW World Tag Team Champions The Midnight Express (with Dennis Condrey) in 8:13 by disqualification after the Powers of Pain interfered and attacked the Skyscrapers. The Barbarian and the Warlord laid out Sid Vicious and Dan Spivey with several savagely aggressive power moves, leaving them unconscious in the ring as they left with Paul Jones and the LCW United States Tag Team Champions held high above their heads.

In the back, Sean Mooney interviewed Ron Garvin about his victory over Kamala last week and the fact that LCW Television Champion Macho Man Randy Savage and The Genius Lanny Poffo watched the match from the entrance ramp. Garvin said he didn’t know what Savage’s interest in him was, but if Savage wanted a piece of him all he needed to do was bring it on. Poffo approached Garvin and told him that he didn’t need to worry about his brother, he needed to be more concerned with Poffo because if he wanted a piece of Savage, he would need to go through him first. Garvin said he didn’t want a piece of Savage, but said that since Poffo was offering he’d kick Poffo’s ass, take that piece of Savage, and then take the LCW Television Championship. Poffo then slapped Garvin across the face and Garvin blasted him with the Hands of Stone, knocking him out before walking away.

Greg Valentine defeated Outlaw Ron Bass (with James J. Dillon) in 4:18 by submission with a small package in an Elimination Chamber qualifying match after the Honky Tonk Man interfered and accidentally hit Bass with his guitar.

In the back, LCW International Champion Paul Orndorff was shining his title belt when LCW General Manager Nick Bockwinkel approached him and told him not to get too comfortable because if he can actually manage to retain his title at the LCW Caged Heat pay-per-view in the Elimination Chamber, he’ll already have another opponent lined up because at the LCW Caged Heat pay-per-view there would be another kind of match, what he was calling a King of the Cage match where six men will be in the ring and four men will be eliminated by pinfall of submission. With two men left in the cage, a ladder would be placed into the ring and a contract would be lowered over the ring and the winner of the ladder match would be the number one contender for the LCW International Championship after the LCW Caged Heat pay-per-view. Bockwinkel announced that every week for the next three weeks, a series of contender matches would take place to determine who would take part in the King of the Cage match. Bockwinkel walked out as Orndorff looked on with an angry look on his face as the show went to commercial.

In the back, Harley Race approached LCW Universal Champion Magnum TA and said, “I know you’ve got your issues with Nikita Koloff, but how about giving Big Van Vader a title shot tonight.” Magnum said he respected Race, but he had to settle his issues with Koloff first before focusing on anyone else. Race said, “Let me rephrase the question.” Race then slapped Magnum TA across the face and said, “How about giving Big Van Vader a title shot tonight?” Magnum stared in Race’s face and said, “I can guarantee you one thing, Vader will get his title shot tonight…but it will not be Vader time.” Magnum walked away as Race said to himself, “We’ll see.”

Butch Reed (with Slick) defeated Wildfire Tommy Rich in 5:08 by pinfall after the gorilla press slam in a King of the Cage qualifying match. During the match, Don Muraco and Mr. Fuji came out to watch the match from the entrance stage.

In a pre-recorded segment, Bill Mercer was with Tully Blanchard in a gym in San Antonio, TX, and Blanchard was training with Baby Doll and punching a heavy bag as Baby Doll held the bag in place. Blanchard talked about coming home to focus and train for his Brass Corners steel cage match with Manny Fernandez at the LCW Caged Heat pay-per-view on Sunday, August 24th. Blanchard said he was in the best shape of his life and was going to regain the LCW United States Championship at LCW Caged Heat. Mercer asked about the brass corners and if he’d climb over the top of the cage and pass by the brass knuckles or if he’d grab the brass knuckles and go back into the cage to use the brass knuckles on Fernandez. Blanchard said he wanted to win the title, but he also wanted to hurt Fernandez. Blanchard said, “For the past several months, that bastard has been trying to kill me. He’s been trying to take me out of this business, tried to take away my livelihood, tried to take food out of the mouth of my wife and children just because I drove away after he’d been stabbed at LCW Uprising, just because when he was bleeding I wouldn’t let him in my car to take him to the hospital. Get over it, Manny! Quit whining, quit crying, quit complaining about something that wouldn’t have even happened if you had kept your nose out of my business. Ever since that night, you’ve been trying to hurt me, you just can’t let it go, but in that steel cage at LCW Caged Heat, I’m going to hurt you. As badly as I want my title back, I want to hurt you more. And I’m going to hurt and I’m going to keep on hurting you.” Blanchard punched the heavy bag and then looked into the camera and said, “And then I’m taking my damn title back!”

In the back, Sean Mooney interviewed Terry Funk who explained why he saved Jack Brisco from One Man Gang last week. Funk said, “Mooney, I think everybody know that there’s no love lost between me and Jack Brisco, but I hate bullies and One Man Gang is the worst kind of bully. One Man Gang is a fat, ugly, mean and nasty bully. But I’m the kid on the playground who isn’t going to let the bully push the other kids around.

Zbyszko said, “Well, he’s not Bill Goldberg, yet.” Schiavone said, “I think the magic word there is ‘yet’” During the match, Terry Funk watched the match from the entrance ramp.

On a split screen, LCW Universal Champion Magnum TA was shown making his way through the arena corridor and Harley Race knocked on Big Van Vader’s locker room door and Vader left the locker room and made his way through the arena corridor with Race.

Big Van Vader (with Harley Race) defeated LCW Universal Champion Magnum TA in 8:43 by disqualification after Dr. Death Steve Williams, with his manager Cowboy Bill Watts, interfered and attacked Vader blasting him with a steel chair. Moments later, Magnum hit Williams with the belly-to-belly suplex, but only staggered Williams who rolled out of the ring. Meanwhile, Nikita Koloff made his way to the ring and moved into position to blast Magnum with the Russian Sickle clothesline, but Magnum moved out of the way and Koloff hit Vader, who was making his way to his feet behind Magnum, instead. Vader rolled outside the ring where Williams attacked him as security officials arrived and tried to pull them apart. In the ring, Magnum grabbed Koloff and was going to hit him with the belly-to-belly suplex, but Koloff hit Magnum with a headbutt which forced Koloff to break the hold and Koloff blasted Magnum with the Russian Sickle clothesline. Koloff then picked up the LCW Universal Championship and looked at it before dropping it on the fallen Magnum TA’s body and walking out and past security as they continued trying to separate Williams and Vader.
