LCW Showdown Television Results 04.23.08

LCW Showdown Television Results (April 23, 2008) live from the Stephen C. O'Connell Center in Gainesville, FL.

In the back, The Rock arrived in a limousine with his father, Rocky Johnson. Another limousine pulled up and LCW Founder Christian Calaway stepped out with LCW Chairman of the Board Jim Crockett, Jr. Calaway and Rock stared at each other moment and then Calaway extended his hand for a handshake. The Rock shook his hand and they went their separate ways.

From the broadcast booth, Tony Schiavone and Larry Zbyszko welcomed everyone to a special, three-hour edition of LCW Showdown as "Monsters" by Matchbook Romance, the LCW Showdown theme song, played in the background and as fireworks exploded all over the arena. Schiavone and Zbyszko reviewed the LCW Torment pay-per-view last Sunday (click here for the complete results).

LCW United States Champion Randy Savage (with The Genius Lanny Poffo) defeated Ken Patera in 4:08 by pinfall after the flying elbow smash. After the match, Rowdy Roddy Piper appeared on the entrance stage and challenged Savage to rematch for the LCW United States Championship next week on LCW Showdown. Savage agreed to the match, but said he wanted the “giant, green Leprechaun” banned from ringside. LCW General Manager Ole Anderson came out and said, “Savage, I’m willing to have Sheamus O’Shaunessy banned from ringside, but then I’m also going to ban The Genius from ringside as well.” Savage reacted negatively and Anderson said, “You don’t like that, Savage? Well, how about this? How about we erect a 15-foot high steel cage around the two of you and let you go at it one-on-one?!” Savage exploded and Anderson said, “Yeah, I think that’s what we’re do. Next week on LCW Showdown, LCW United States Champion Randy Savage will face Rowdy Roddy Piper in a steel cage match!”

Live via satellite, Mean Gene Okerlund was seen preparing for a one-on-one interview with Lady Amazon from her home in Nashville, Tennessee, as the show went to commercial.

Live via satellite, Mean Gene Okerlund interviewed Lady Amazon who talked about the wedding being interrupted by Demolition and the fact that she was no longer engaged to Col. Robert Parker. Amazon said, “It’s just too much for us right now and we’re going our separate ways.” Amazon thanked Parker for loving her and she also thanked Missy Hyatt for being a friend and for being there for her when she needed her most. Okerlund said, “Speaking of when you needed her most, let’s talk about the miscarriages.” Amazon remained silent for a moment, a tear fell down her face, and she took off her microphone, said the interview was over and asked Okerlund and the camera crew to leave her home. Amazon could be heard saying, as the camera was dismounted from its tripod, “I’m sorry, Gene. I can’t do this anymore.” Amazon told Gene and the crew to see themselves out and she left the room.

Paul Jones came out with the Powers of Pain and demanded a special ceremony just like LCW Board of Directors member Ivan Koloff had at the LCW Torment pay-per-view Sunday. (Click here for the complete results) Jones said he was also being inducted into the Hall of Heroes at the NWA Wrestling Legends Fanfest in Charlotte, NC in August. (Click here to purchase your tickets now!) Demolition came out and said they love special ceremonies. They said they especially love wedding and suggested that maybe they should change their name to the Wedding Crashers. Footage was shown on the LegendsTron of Demolition interfering in Col. Robert Parker’s wedding to Lady Amazon last Sunday night at the LCW Torment pay-per-view (click here for the complete results), attacking Cowboy Bob Orton and Dirty Dick Slater, and then destroying the wedding set in the ring. Jones said they could crash all the weddings they wanted, but it didn’t mean anything. Demolition started moving towards the ring and Demolition Ax said, “How about if we kick your ass? Would that mean something? How about we have a ceremony right now? How about the Demolition is going to kick Paul Jones’ ass ceremony?” Demolition got into the ring and started brawling with the Powers of Pain as Paul Jones jumped out of the ring and took his place at ringside. LCW General Manager Ole Anderson came out with a referee and sent the referee to the ring. Demolition knocked the Powers of Pain out of the ring and Anderson said, “Stop it! Stop it right now. I’ve just sent a referee to the ring because we’re going to make this an official match. Demolition, Powers of Pain, if you guys really want to go at it, that’s fine with me, but we’re going to make it mean something. When we come back from the commercial this match is going to happen and the winner will get a title shot next week on LCW Showdown for the LCW United States Tag Team Championships.”

The Powers of Pain (with Paul Jones) defeated Demolition in 8:52 by pinfall when The Barbarian pinned Demolition Smash after Cowboy Bob Orton and Dirty Dick Slater, with their manager Col. Robert Parker, interfered while Paul Jones had the referee distracted and Orton hit Smash with a piledriver. After the match, The Powers of Pain and Paul Jones left with Col. Robert Parker, Cowboy Bob Orton, and Dirty Dick Slater.

In a pre-recorded segment, Mean Gene Okerlund arrived at a hospital in Phoenix, AZ, and said he was going to interview Superstar Billy Graham during his physical rehab workout after being run down by Luna Vachon’s car at the LCW Breaking Point pay-per-view last month. Graham was focused on his workout and didn’t answer any of Okerlund’s questions, but the physical therapist said that Graham was the most intense and focused individual he had ever worked with. Okerlund asked about Graham’s return and the therapist said, “I don’t see any reason why Superstar Billy Graham, with his work ethic and dedication and focus to his physical therapy, I don’t see why he can’t make a return to the ring by SuperClash in July.” Okerlund thanked the therapist and wished Graham a continued speedy recovery.

From the broadcast booth, Tony Schiavone and Larry Zbyszko reviewed footage from the LCW Torment pay-per-view last Sunday of Midnight Express member Dennis Condrey being sent through a table from the ring over the top rope by Sid Vicious during the Skyscrapers match with the Midnight Express at LCW Torment. Schiavone announced that Dennis Condrey had suffered a Grade III concussion, but was doing well and was resting at home. In the back, Sean Mooney interviewed LCW World Tag Team Champions The Skyscrapers and Dan Spivey said, “This is what we do, Sean Mooney! This is who we are, this is who we’ve always been, and this is who we will always be. The reasons may have changed, the audience may have changed, they may be in our corner now, but the outcome will always be the same. If you don’t like what we’re going to do to you…then don’t get in the ring with us!” The Skyscrapers walked away.

King Kong Bundy and One Man Gang (with Skandor Akbar) defeated Sam Houston and Widfire Tommy Rich in 1:14 by pinfall when Gang pinned Rich after the 747 Splash after Bundy hit Rich with the Avalanche splash in the corner. In his office, LCW General Manager Ole Anderson told Big Van Vader’s manager Harley Race and LCW International Champion Dr. Death Steve Williams’ manager Cowboy Bill Watts that he needed them to keep Williams and Vader away from each other until the LCW Uprising pay-per-view. Race said he would do what he could, but he couldn’t promise anything. Watts told him to keep that “pig-faced bull” away from Uprising or he would find out sooner rather than later why everybody else in Legends Championship Wrestling doesn’t want to get in the ring with Dr. Death Steve Williams. Race said that Vader wasn’t worried about facing Williams at LCW Uprising and that Williams should be worried about Vader getting to him before Williams. Watts said, “You have more to worry about from me than Dr. Death has to worry about from Vader.” Race challenged Watts and said if he wanted to start something they could finish it in the ring like two old generals on the battlefield. Anderson kept them apart and said, “Maybe later,” before walking away.

Slick came out with Butch Reed and Tony Atlas and they got into the ring. Slick demanded a match between The Rock and Butch Reed tonight. On the LegendsTron, Slick showed footage of The Rock attacking Butch Reed at the LCW Torment pay-per-view last Sunday. The Rock appeared on the LegendsTron, interrupting the footage. The Rock said he was tired of seeing the footage and hearing Slick’s complaining. The Rock said, “Actually, I’m not tired of seeing this…” and the footage of the Rock opening the ambulance door in Butch Reed’s face and knocking him out played on the LegendsTron as the Rock made jokes mockingly about knocking Reed out with the door and laughed. Reed grabbed the microphone from Slick and said he wanted The Rock in the ring right now! The Rock laughed and said he was only in the arena to sign a contract and was getting ready to leave when he heard Slick and Reed shooting their mouths off. Rock said he didn’t even have his ring gear with him. Reed said Rock didn’t need his ring gear to get a beat down. The Rock laughed mockingly and he didn’t have his gear tonight and he had another appointment, but he would have his gear next week and Butch Reed would be more than glad to kick Reed’s ass next week on LCW Showdown, “…if ya smell…what the Rock…is cookin’!” The Rock disappeared, but the loop of Reed being knocked out by the ambulance door keep playing on a loop as the show went to commercial.

In the back, LCW Founder, and former Chairman of the Board, Christian Calaway was speaking with LCW Chairman of the Board Jim Crockett, Jr., and said, “Jim, you’ve done a great job in my absence and I can’t thank you enough for holding down the fort while I was gone, but I want my company back and I think I’ve finally found the legal loophole that will allow me to regain my position as Chairman of the Board. You see, almost six months ago I helped Stone Cold Steve Austin beat Nikita Koloff for the LCW Universal Championship because I wanted to prove to him, I had to prove to him and the world that I had become a changed man. However, in doing so, I also had to sacrifice my position as Chairman of the Board of Legends Championship Wrestling. I had to resign as Chairman of the Board. But deep in the small print of that contract was a stipulation that stated if Austin wanted to challenge me to a rematch I could add a stipulation to the rematch that says if I win the rematch I could be reinstated as Chairman of the Board. Now, all I have to do is get Austin to challenge me to a rematch.” Crockett said, “Why don’t you just challenge him?” Calaway said, “See, that’s the problem. The contract clearly states that Austin has to challenge me. You’re willing to step down as Chairman of the Board and I appreciate that. That was part of our original agreement when I named you as my replacement several months ago, but I still have to find a way to get Austin to challenge me to a match. But how am I going to get Austin to challenge me so I can regain control of the company?” When Calaway turned around LCW Universal Champion Stone Cold Steve Austin was standing face to face with the former Chairman of the Board. Austin said, “Why don’t you just ask me, jack ass?” Calaway nervously asked, “Um, would you…uh, challenge me…to a match?” Austin said, “HELL NO! As a matter of fact, I wouldn’t be as worried about if I’m going to challenge you or even how you’re going to get me to challenge you, but if I do, you need to think about how you’re going to beat me to become the Chairman of the Board because if you and I ever do get in the ring, I’m going to kick your ass!” Austin walked away as a discouraged Calaway watched him leave.

Paul Orndorff defeated LCW Universal Champion Stone Cold Steve Austin in 14:51 by disqualification after Magnum TA interfered and blasted Orndorff with a steel chair. Magnum stood over the fallen Orndorff and stared down at his lifeless body for a moment with the steel chair in his hands. Magnum then threw down the steel chair and turned around. When Magnum turned around he was face to face with Stone Cold Steve Austin. The two men stared at each other for a moment until Magnum pointed at Orndorff and said, ‘This is between me and him. This has nothing to do with you.” Austin said he understood and let Magnum leave the ring.
