LCW Showdown Television Results 04.15.09: Showdown Sweepstakes

From the broadcast booth, Tony Schiavone and Larry Zbyszko welcomed everyone to a special three-hour edition of LCW Showdown as "Monsters" by Matchbook Romance, the LCW Showdown theme song, played in the background and as fireworks exploded all over the arena. Schiavone and Zbyszko discussed the return of Macho Man Randy Savage, who attacked Bill Goldberg last Sunday night and helped Magnum TA retain the LCW Universal Championship. LCW General Manager Eric Bischoff came out and announced that tonight’s edition of LCW Showdown would feature a Showdown Sweepstakes in which every title will be on the line and every title will have a contenders match to determine a new number one contender for each title. Bischoff said the catch was that all the contenders for the title tonight and all the participants for the contenders matches would be drawn at random as well. Bischoff called out the new LCW World Tag Team Champions Manny Fernandez and One Man Gang for their title defense. Bischoff went to the back as Fernandez and Gang got into the ring. Turner said, “Speaking of the LCW Universal Championship, Eric, why don’t we make that the first contenders match. Why don’t you and I each pull out a ball from the tumbler and those two names will make up the contenders match tonight for the LCW Universal Championship.” Bischoff said he couldn’t imagine a better way to start the contenders portion of tonight’s Showdown Sweepstakes. Bischoff and Turner each pulled a name from the tumbler and then showed each other their slips of paper and Turner said, “Are you serious?” Bischoff said, “This should be interesting.” Bischoff called for a production staff member and told them to find the two men on the slips of paper and tell them they were up next to determine the number one contender for the LCW Universal Championship after the commercial break. Show was solid, but it's time an established tag team like The Midnight Express, Rock N Roll Express or The Road Warriors take on the makeshift tag team and win the belts at Uprising. If Magnum T.A. retain his Universal Title after June 22, he must be declared one of the very best, but if he has to get through June's PPV, how about Ric Flair, Tully Blanchard or Bret Hart, or better, how about all three go after the title in a four way dance for the title.
