LCW Showdown Television Results 04.08.09

LCW Showdown Television Results (April 8, 2009) live from the Greensboro Coliseum in Greensboro, NC.

From the broadcast booth, Tony Schiavone and Larry Zbyszko welcomed everyone to LCW Showdown as "Monsters" by Matchbook Romance, the LCW Showdown theme song, played in the background and as fireworks exploded all over the arena.

In the parking lot, LCW Chairman of the Board Ted Turner, LCW General Manager Eric Bischoff, Bill Goldberg and Diamond Dallas Page were shown arriving to the arena. Sean Mooney approached them and Bischoff announced that Goldberg would face Dr. Death Steve Williams tonight and Magnum TA would defend his title against Page. Turner, Bischoff, Goldberg and Page walked away together.

LCW International Champion Tully Blanchard (with Baby Doll) defeated Ron Garvin in 5:41 by pinfall after the slingshot suplex.

In the back, Hollywood John Tatum was talking with Missy Hyatt about LCW Television Champion Wildfire Tommy Rich attacking Austin Idol last week after Idol beat Tatum in the finals of the LCW Television Championship Contenders Tournament. Tatum asked Hyatt, “Missy, Tommy said it was all a plan. Would you have done that to me, Missy? If I had won the tournament, would you have let Tommy do that to me? Missy looked at him and said, “Of course not, baby. You know you’re my number one guy.” Tatum said, “That’s what I thought, baby. I just needed to be sure.” Rich approached them and said, “Let’s go take care of business.” Rich, Hyatt, and Tatum walked away.

LCW Television Champion Wildfire Tommy Rich came out with Hollywood John Tatum and Missy Hyatt and Rich said that this Sunday night he was going to defend the title against Austin Idol and he called out Idol to the ring. Idol came out and Rich said what happened last week was an “unfortunate incident.” Idol said, “What happened last week was bullshit, man. If you’re afraid of losing the title to me why don’t you just say so?” Rich told Idol to slow down and said he was afraid of losing the title to anyone. Idol said, referring to him and Tatum, “Except one of us, right?” Rich laughed and got in Idol’s face and said he was afraid of losing the title to anyone. Idol said that Rich and Tatum attacked him because he worked hard and earned the title shot. He warned Tatum to be careful because the same thing could have happened to him. Idol said, “Let’s cut to the chase. Without us (pointing to himself and Tatum) you wouldn’t have that (pointing to the belt). And without us, you’re going to be without that (pointing to the belt) sooner rather than later.” Rich said that wasn’t true, but he knew one thing that was true: they were stronger with Idol than without him and he wanted to “apologize for the unfortunate incident last week and move on.” Rich said he would still give Idol the title shot, but he wanted to apologize and bring him back into the fold. Rich said, “With you, we’re stronger and I realize that now. I made a mistake and I’m sorry.” Rich extended his hand for a handshake. Idol looked around and the fans urged him not to shake Rich’s hand. Idol looked at Tatum and Hyatt who both implored Idol to shake Rich’s hand. Idol took Rich’s hand and the two men shook and Idol left the ring with Rich, Hyatt and Tatum.

In the back, LCW General Manager Eric Bischoff approached One Man Gang and told him that his partner, King Kong Bundy, wasn’t medically cleared to wrestle at the LCW Torment pay-per-view this Sunday, but he would still allow Gang to pick a new partner tonight. Gang thanked Bischoff for the opportunity to find a partner and said it didn’t matter who he picked because they were going to become the new LCW World Tag Team Champions.

In the back, Sean Mooney interviewed LCW Heritage Champion Kevin Sullivan, with his manager Luna Vachon, and Mooney asked him why he didn’t have a match at the LCW Torment pay-per-view this Sunday and Sullivan said since he proved himself when he beat Paul Orndorff last month at the LCW Breaking Point pay-per-view. Paul Orndorff approached Sullivan and said he didn’t prove anything because he had his feet on the ropes and he had been ducking Sullivan for weeks. Orndorff said he was wanted a rematch at the LCW Torment pay-per-view this Sunday. LCW General Manager Eric Bischoff appeared and said that he understood Orndorff’s frustration. He said he was going to do Orndorff a favor and give him a shot at the LCW International Championship this Sunday night at the LCW Torment pay-per-view. Orndorff said he appreciated it, but he still wanted to get his hands on Sullivan. Orndorff said he didn’t deserve to be champion, not after what he did to win the title and especially not after what he did to Superstar Billy Graham. Bischoff said he hadn’t forgotten either incident and he would make Sullivan prove that he’s worthy of being champion. Sullivan said, “Excuse me, I’m standing right here.” Bischoff asked Orndorff to excuse he and Sullivan and Orndorff walked away. Bischoff turned his attention to Sullivan and said, “At the LCW Torment pay-per-view this Sunday you will be defending the title and tonight, you’ll find out who your opponent is going to be.” Bischoff walked away as Sullivan and Vachon looked on.

Dr. Death Steve Williams defeated Bill Goldberg in 14:37 by disqualification after Bill Goldberg threw the referee to the mat so he could continue punching Williams in the corner. After the match, as Goldberg grabbed the referee and yelled at him for the disqualification decision, Williams came out of the corner and hit Goldberg with the three point stance shoulder tackle, knocking him out of the ring. Williams challenged Goldberg to get back in the ring, but Goldberg walked up the entrance ramp to the back.

In a pre-recorded interview, Bill Mercer sat down with Ken Patera, who was wearing an eye patch and bandages on his forehead and on the right side of his face. Together, they watched the footage of General Skador Akbar throwing a fireball in Patera’s face last week, giving him second degree burns on his face and blurring his vision. Patera said it was difficult from him not being allowed to continue in the tournament because he knows it was his time and he knew that he would have gone on and won the tournament and beaten Rich this week, but Patera said there was plenty of time for that. Patera said his focus was on Akbar and the rest of the Disciples of Allah. Patera said, “My good friend, Sgt. Slaughter is going to take care of Abdullah the Butcher this Sunday night, but I won’t rest until I see them all destroyed! I don’t care what it takes or what I have to do, they won’t survive to see the end of the year together!” Patera angrily took off his lapel microphone and walked off the set.

Cowboy Bob Orton and Dirty Dick Slater (with Col. Robert Parker) defeated the Killer Bees in 4:21 by pinfall when Orton pinned Brunzell after the Superplex. After the match, the Long Riders came out with Maw Bass and attacked Orton and Slater. Black Bart and Outlaw Ron Bass tried to tie up Orton and Slater with their bullropes, but Orton and Slater turned the tables and wrapped the bullropes around Bart and Bass’ necks. Orton choked out Bart as Slater tried to throw Bass over the top rope to hang him. Security officials ran out and got Orton and Slater out of the ring. Maw Bass climbed into the ring to check on her boys. Maw Bass picked up one of the bullropes and screamed, “Parker! Orton! Slater! You guys want to try and choke out my boys, you want to choke my boys, why don’t we have ourselves a good ol’ fashioned bullrope match? Why don’t’ we have a double bullrope match? At LCW Torment this Sunday, you two sons of bitches against my boys in a double bullrope match.” From the entrance stage, Parker accepted the challenge.

In the back, LCW Universal Champion Magnum TA was shown making his way through the arena corridor on his way to the ring as the show went to commercial.

i loved this weeks' showdown, man.

i think that the feud between goldberg and magnum is the hottest sh*t you've had in the main event scene since nikita-magnum.

hope you continue this feud in the near future.

great show - 9/10

Goldberg/Magnum is by far one of the best, I'd like to see where this goes. Would it set up a WCW Vs NWA type of feud or what?

Thanks RKO and KDB. We love the feedback. We're glad you're enjoying the Goldberg/Magnum feud. We thought our audience would enjoy it. The feud should continue for awhile and evolve as well as we approach the summer and events like Caged Heat (WarGames anyone? Or maybe Hell in a Cell?) :) We hadn't thought of a WCW vs. NWA feud, but that's not a bad idea.

Thanks for the support and stay tuned,
