LCW Showdown Television Results 09.24.08

LCW Showdown Television Results (September 24, 2008) live from Von Braun Center in Huntsville, AL.

From the broadcast booth, Tony Schiavone and Larry Zbyszko welcomed everyone to LCW Showdown as "Monsters" by Matchbook Romance, the LCW Showdown theme song, played in the background and as fireworks exploded all over the arena. Schiavone and Zbyszko reviewed the LCW Survival Project pay-per-view which took place last Sunday (click here for the complete results) and saw Big Van Vader eliminate a record breaking 10 legends to become the number one contender for the LCW International Championship and Dr. Death Steve Williams as the last man standing at the end of the night to become the number one contender for the LCW Universal Championship. Schiavone announced that LCW Universal Champion Magnum TA was scheduled to defend his title tonight as Don Muraco.

In the back, LCW Chairman of the Board Christian Calaway and LCW General Manager Nick Bockwinkel arrived in a limousine. Another limousine pulled up beside them and The Nature Boy Ric Flair and Dawn Marie got out of the limousine. Calaway shook Flair’s hand and welcomed him back to Legends Championship Wrestling. Calaway and Bockinwkel walked away and Flair and Dawn Marie walked in the opposite direction. Tully Blanchard and Baby Doll got out of Flair’s limousine and Baby Doll complained about Dawn Marie calling her obnoxious and annoying and warning that she was going to beat her down if she didn’t settle down. Blanchard calmed Baby Doll down and told her that it was only temporary. Blanchard said, “You know how Ric is with women. This is just another one of those girls who will be here for awhile and then she’ll be gone soon and no one will remember her name. Just give it time, Doll.” Baby Doll said, “Whatever,” and then walked away.

Cowboy Bill Watts came out and introduced the winner of the 2008 LCW Survival Project and the new number one contender for the LCW Universal Championship Dr. Death Steve Williams. Williams came out and joined Watts on the entrance ramp as Watts officially announced that Williams would take his title shot at LCW Night of Horrors 2008. Watts said Williams had been the most dominant monster in Legends Championship Wrestling and was going to dominate when it mattered most. He said Williams wasn’t going to fall short of the ultimate prize like Big Van Vader. He said he wasn’t disappointed of Williams like Harley Race was disappointed by Big Van Vader. Watts said he had never been prouder of Williams than he was last Sunday night when he won the Survival Project. Watts said he could be prouder of Williams and would be…when he wins the LCW Universal Championship at the LCW Night of Horrors pay-per-view on Sunday, October 19th. Watts and Williams walked to the back.

From the broadcast booth, Tony Schiavone and Larry Zbyszko reviewed footage from last week’s edition of LCW Showdown in which the Wild Samoans attacked the Powers of Pain and the two teams brawled all over the arena.

The Powers of Pain defeated the Wild Samoans in 6:11 by pinfall when the Barbarian pinned Sika after a diving headbutt. During the match, Mr. Fuji came out and watched the match from the entrance stage and left after the pinfall. From the broadcast booth, Tony Schiavone questioned Mr. Fuji’s appearance on the entrance stage asking, “But who was he interested in? Was he watching the Powers of Pain, a team he has a storied history with, or was it the Wild Samoans?”

The Raging Bull Manny Fernandez came out and talked about eliminating eight legends and said he would have eliminated more if it hadn’t been for one man: Superstar Billy Graham. He said Graham took him to the 15 minute time limit and, as a result of going to the limit, both men were eliminated. Fernandez asked Graham to join him in the ring. Graham came out and joined Fernandez in the ring. Fernandez said, “You know, Superstar, if we had just five more minutes, my streak would have continued.” Graham said, "And if you had any sense of tradition or history, as a former World Champion, you would have stepped aside. You would have swallowed your pride and let me have my moment in the sun. This is probably going to be my last run in Legends Championship Wrestling and you cost me the chance to be the LCW Universal Champion or at least getting a shot at the LCW International Championship. I didn't even get the chance to break your record because..." Fernandez interrupted him and said, “Rather than talking about stepping aside and handing stuff to you, daddy, why don’t you man up and show me you’ve still got it.” Graham got in Fernandez’s face and the two men argued with each other until LCW General Manager Nick Bockwinkel came out and said, “Wait a minute, gentlemen, wait a minute. If I could have your attention for a moment, please, I’d like to make an announcement. You don’t think I’d actually let a match this significant, after the performance I saw between the two of you at the LCW Survival Project last Sunday, you don’t think I’d let a match this significant take place on just any show, do you? No, as a matter of fact you two will face each other in a rematch and that rematch will happen at the LCW Night of Horrors pay-per-view on Sunday, October 19th.” Bockwinkel went to the back as Graham and Fernandez continued arguing with each other as they left the ring.

In the back, Harley Race approached LCW General Manager Nick Bockwinkel and suggested a match tonight: the winner of the LCW Survival Project last Sunday night (click here for the complete results) and the man who eliminated the most legends in the LCW Survival Project last Sunday night. Bockwinkel said, “Wait a minute, Harley, are you suggesting that Dr. Death Steve Williams, the man who won the LCW Survival Project last Sunday night, and Big Van Vader, the man who eliminated ten men from the LCW Survival Project last Sunday night, face each other in a match tonight?” Race said that was exactly what he was suggesting and went even further to suggest that it should be the main event. Bockwinkel said that sounded good to him and walked away.

In the back, Don Muraco confronted Mr. Fuji, who was talking with the Great Kabuki, about why he was going to ringside with the Great Kabuki instead of focusing on Muraco who has a shot at the LCW Universal Championship tonight when he faces LCW Universal Champion Magnum TA tonight. Fuji said he was going to ringside with Kabuki and then he would come back and help Muraco prepare for his match with Magnum TA. Kabuki and Fuji walked away.

The Great Kabuki (with Mr. Fuji) defeated Ivan Putski in 3:01 by pinfall after the thrust kick.

In the back, a cameraman ran to an unknown location where Ric Flair could be seen throwing someone into a set of double doors and kicking at the man as he fell to the ground. When the cameraman got closer, it could be seen that the man that Flair was attacking was Sam Houston as Dawn Marie cheered him on to continue attacking Houston. Flair began to drag Houston to the entrance stage and kicked him down the entrance ramp and threw him into the ring. Flair put Houston in the figure four leglock as security officials ran out and tried to get Flair to break the hold. Flair refused and said he was The Rock. The audience started chanting “Rocky! Rocky!” Instead of the Rock, Baby Doll came out and begged Flair to stop and release the figure four leglock. Flair refused and Dawn Marie told her to back off. Baby Doll grabbed Dawn Marie and threw her out of the ring and then grabbed Flair by the hair and pulled him off of Houston. Flair got in Baby Doll’s face, but she didn’t back down and Flair left ringside with Dawn Marie, holding her back because she wanted to get back into the ring to get at Baby Doll.

In the back, the camera was on a mirror which showed a man sitting on a stool getting his hair done by a stylist and looking in a hand mirror admiring his looks. The man’s face couldn’t be seen, but he said, “There only one Austin in Legends Championship Wrestling today and that’s me…” He turned around and said, “The Universal Heartthrob Austin Idol!” Idol laughed and then slammed the mirror face down on the table and said, “And that’s not bad luck for me, it’s bad luck for all of you.”

Bob Backlund defeated LCW United States Champion The Iron Sheik (with General Skandor Akbar and Sheik Adnan Al-Kassie) in 6:51 by pinfall after Manny Fernandez interfered and hit Sheik with the Flying Burrito to help Backlund win the LCW United States Championship. Before the match, from the broadcast booth, Tony Schiavone noted that Bob Backlund was injured by Ken Patera at the LCW Survival Project pay-per-view. (Click here for the complete results.) Schiavone also noted the history between the two men with The Iron Sheik having won the WWF World Heavyweight Championship from an injured Bob Backlund. After the match, Schiavone noted that this time an injured Backlund was victorious in winning the LCW United States Championship.

In the back, Sam Houston, still hurting from being attacked by Ric Flair earlier, approached LCW General Manager Nick Bockwinkel and demanded a match with Ric Flair tonight. Bockwinkel said he couldn’t allow that considering Houston’s current condition, but he would allow Houston to find a partner and take on Ric Flair in a tag team match. Houston said that sounded good as long as it meant he would get his hands on Ric Flair. Bockwinkel asked Houston who his partner would be and Houston said it would be Koko B. Ware.

Austin Idol defeated Corporal Kirchner in 3:17 by pinfall after the Heartthrob Drop piledriver. From the broadcast booth, Tony Schiavone noted that Idol was calling his version of the piledriver the Heartthrob Drop.

In the ring, Sean Mooney introduced Rick Martel and Tito Santana who came out and joined Mooney in the ring. Martel was wearing a neck brace after falling on his head at the LCW Survival Project pay-per-view last Sunday (click here for the complete results) after Dirty Dick Slater clotheslined him over the top rope. Footage of the incident played on the LegendsTron and Martel said his neck was almost broken, but reassured everyone that he was going to be all right. Martel said he was proud of Tito Santana’s performance in the Survival Project and promised that he would be back at 100% soon and Strike Force would be stronger than ever. Col. Robert Parker came out with Cowboy Bob Orton and Dirty Dick Slater and was pretending to cry, mocking Martel. Parker challenged Strike Force to a match tonight. Santana said that Martel wasn’t able to wrestle, but Martel ripped off his neck brace and told Orton and Slater to bring it and accepted the challenge. As Orton and Slater made their way to the ring, Santana tried to talk Martel out of the match and told him to stay on the ring apron.

Strike Force defeated Cowboy Bob Orton and Dirty Dick Slater (with Col. Robert Parker) in 3:11 by disqualification after LCW World Tag Team Champions Midnight Express (with Dennis Condrey) interfered and attacked Martel and Santana. After the match, Martel was unable to fully defend himself and was taken out early by Orton and Slater as the Midnight Express focused their double team attack on Santana. Dennis Condrey blasted Santana with a steel chair, knocking him out of the ring. Orton and Slater double teamed Santana outside the ring as Eaton and Lane grabbed Martel and hit him with a neckbreaker. The Hart Foundation came out with steel chairs and chased Orton, Slater, Parker, Eaton, Lane, and Condrey out of the ring before checking on Santana and Martel. Neidhart called for medical officials from the back to come to the ring and the medical officials ran to the ring with a stretcher as the show went to commercial.

The Hart Foundation defeated The Islanders in 5:09 by pinfall after the Hart Attack. The Hart Foundation then challenged LCW World Tag Team Champions The Midnight Express to a match at the LCW Night of Horrors pay-per-view saying that the Midnight Express tried to break Rick Martel’s neck, but they were going to make the Midnight Express feel a Hart Attack.

In the back, the new LCW United States Champion Bob Backlund was on the phone talking with his wife about his victory over the Iron Sheik when Ken Patera came out of nowhere and attacked him from behind, hitting him with a shoulderbreaker on his already injured shoulder. Sam Houston and Koko B. Ware defeated Ric Flair (with Dawn Marie) and Tully Blanchard (with Baby Doll) in 6:42 by pinfall with a small package rollup when Houston pinned Blanchard after Dawn Marie accidentally hit Blanchard with her shoe. After the match, Ware and Houston, ecstatic about the win celebrated with the fans as Blanchard and Flair exchanged words in the ring as Blanchard held Baby Doll back from attacking Dawn Marie. Flair grabbed a microphone and said, “Enough! Enough! This is all a distraction and, quite honestly a waste of my time. Everyone know why I’m here. Someone has what’s mine. Someone else has the LCW Universal Championship and I want it back. I’m not here to wrestle in tag team matches with Sam Houston and Koko B. Ware. But I know I just can’t walk in the door and immediately be the number one contender. Last Sunday night, I could have been the number one contender if it hadn’t been for one man. Rock, I’m only focused on one person, and that’s you! I’ve said for years that to be the man you’ve got to beat the man. Well, Rock, once and for all, let’s find out who the man really is.” Flair threw down the microphone and walked out with Blanchard, Dawn Marie and Baby Doll.

Big Van Vader defeated Dr. Death Steve Williams (with Cowboy Bill Watts and Harley Race) in 12:52 by disqualification after LCW International Champion Butch Reed (with Slick) interfered and attacked Vader, hitting him with a steel chair in front of the referee.
